Hanser Alberto
April 7, 2019
Yankees 15, Orioles 3
Alberto, primarily a second baseman, pitched the last inning of a blowout loss to the New York Yankees. He had never pitched in his career and allowed two runs on one hit — a homer — and two walks.
Chris Davis
April 20, 2019
Twins 16, Orioles 7
Davis, a first baseman who had memorably earned a win with an extrainning pitching appearance in 2012, allowed one run on a homer in the final inning against the Minnesota Twins. That wrapped a long day for the Orioles, who were swept in a doubleheader.
Jesús Sucre
April 22, 2019
White Sox 12, Orioles 2
Just two days later, the Orioles catcher at the time pitched a clean final inning of a loss to the Chicago White Sox.
Sucre threw just nine pitches, seven of which were strikes, to sit down the White Sox in order. It was arguably the O’s best pitching performance of the day.
Stevie Wilkerson
July 12, 2019
Rays 16, Orioles 4
The first of Wilkerson’s three pitching appearances this season was quite impressive. Using what he called “poo-poo 67 mph floaters,” Wilkerson pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays. He needed just 10 pitches, seven of which were strikes.

Red Sox, 17, Orioles 6
Eight days later, Wilkerson was needed for two innings to wrap up a loss to the Boston Red Sox. He wasn’t as successful, allowing one run on two hits. But he did strike out one batter.

Orioles 10, Angels 8 (16 innings) Wilkerson made history in his third appearance of the season, becoming the first position player to earn a save in major league history. The Orioles were out of pitchers, having already used nine through 15 innings. So, on came Wilkerson, whose performance matched his impressive pitching debut. He retired the Los Angeles Angels in order in the 16th inning, throwing 14 pitches, 10 for strikes. He lowered his season ERA to 2.25 and became the first Orioles position player to pitch in a win since Davis in 2012.
