Smith helps Parkville stay unbeaten

Parkville senior quarterbac­k Kevin Smith ran for two touchdowns and passed for one to lead unbeaten Parkville (5-0) to a 34-14 win over previously unbeaten Catonsvill­e (4-1) in football on Friday night.

Ricky Sears caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Diluca and Anthony Fliggins had a touchdown run for the host Comets. Life Christian Academy (Va.) 30, No. 3 Archbishop Spalding 29: The host Cavaliers (4-2) went for a two-point conversion and didn’t get it with 26 seconds left and fell to the Eagles (3-3). Austin Tutas went 20-for-35 for 250 yards and two touchdown passes for Spalding. Treshawn Mason had18 carries for 71 yards and two touchdowns for Life Academy.

Elkton 31, Oakdale 14: Inspired by the death of an assistant coach and the desire to make a name for itself against a team which embarrasse­d it last season, Elkton used both its defense and offense to rout the defending state 2A champion Oakdale.

The game was this week’s Ravens RISE High School Showdown and matched two playoff teams from last season when Oakdale shut out the Golden Elks, 38-0, in the 2A semifinals on their way to the state title. Glenelg 10, Howard 7: Senior Chris Retzbach lived every kicker’s dream Friday night. Facing rival Howardinth­e 62nd edition of the Elgard Trophy game, Retzbach made a 26-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Gladiators to a 10-7 home victory.

The left-footed swing was never in doubt. Teammates rushed the field and mobbed him to celebrate his second career game-winning kick. Liberty 28, Winters Mill 7: The Lions roared to their third straight victory, all coming in Carroll County Athletic League play, with a dominating win at Winters Mill.

Liberty (3-2, 3-0 CCAL) forced a quick three-and-out by Winters Mill on the opening drive despite a nice return from Alex Carr out to the 45-yard line. Southern 21, Centennial 0: In a matchup of teams who hadn’t won since the 2016 season, Southern defeated Centennial. The Bulldogs won for the first time since Sept. 16, 2016 and snapped a 31-game losing streak. Harford Tech 14, CM Wright 6: The Cobras (5-0) scored all their points in the fourth quarter in an UCBAC Chesapeake Division battle.
