Beckham fined, questions system

-

Odell Beckham Jr. would rather not fight. That doesn’t mean he won’t.

The Browns receiver was fined an undisclosed amount by the NFL for his heated skirmish last week with Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who appeared to choke Beckham after throwing him to the ground.

Beckham and Humphrey t angled throughout the Browns’ win Sunday. The most violent exchange came in the third quarter when the pair squared off at the end of a running play and were flagged for personal fouls.

In the heat of the moment, Beckham said he didn’t know if Humphrey choked him.

“This is football. This isn’t MMA. This isn’t ‘Street Fighter,’ ” Beckham said.

Beckham has a history of violations for aggressiveness, and had been fined over $220,000 before this altercation.

Beckham f eels t he league’s policy on fines is far too arbitrary.

“It’s crazy,” he said. “The NFL finds ways to just take it (money). They’re going to take it from you.”

McCoy gets start: Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Colt McCoy will start at QB against the Patriots.

McCoy, 33, hasn’t appeared in a game since breaking his right leg during a game in December.

Case Keenum started the Redskins’ first four games, all losses. But he was yanked in favor of first-round pick Dwayne Haskins in the second quarter of last week’s loss to the Giants. Haskins threw three picks in his NFL debut.

Keenum has six turnovers over his last two appearances and has been dealing with an injured right foot.

Another bad Burfict hit: The league informed Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict that he hit another defenseless Colts player Sunday, Burfict’s agent Lamont Smith told ESPN.

Earlier in the week, Burfict was suspended him for the rest of the season for repeated violations of unnecessary roughness rules.

Burfict was ejected for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Colts tight end Jack Doyle.

Extra points: Rams LB Clay Matthews will undergo surgery for a broken jaw and will be out at least one month. ... Panthers QB Cam Newton will miss his third straight game with a foot injury. ... WR Davante Adams will miss the Packers’ game against the Cowboys with a turf-toe injury.
