Watt done for season

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt sustained a seasonendi­ng injury to his pectoral muscle during Sunday’s 27-24 win over the Raiders.

Watt was injured making a tackle in the second quarter and tweeted afterward that he was done for the season.

This is the third time in four seasons that the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year has had a season-ending injury. He missed the last 13 games of 2016 with a back injury which required surgery and played just five games in 2017 before breaking his leg. He played all 16 games last season and was a first-team All-Pro after finishing with 16 sacks and 18 tackles for losses.

Auto racing: Two-time defending F1 champ Lewis Hamilton overcame Ferrari’s front-row start to win the Mexican Grand Prix in Mexico City, moving the Mercedes driver closer to a sixth career championsh­ip. Only Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas’ third-place finish denied Hamilton the championsh­ip by the slimmest of margins. Hamilton needed only to beat Bottas by 14 points, but picked up 10 instead. That sends the championsh­ip to next week’s U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, where Hamilton has won five times since 2012.

College football: The No. 1 vs. No. 2 game between Alabama and LSU in two weeks looks set, though the order of the Crimson Tide and Tigers changed in the AP Top 25 in one of the closet votes ever. Heading into an off date for both teams, LSU flip-flopped with Alabama to become the new No. 1 in The AP college football poll. The Tigers received 1,476 points, two more than Alabama, for the closest margin between 1 and 2 since No. 1 Florida State was two points ahead of Auburn on Oct. 5, 2014. No. 3 Ohio State wasn’t far behind with 1,468 points.

Golf: South Korea’s Ha Na Jang birdied the third playoff hole to beat Danielle Kang for the LPGA’s BMW Ladies Championsh­ip in Busan, South Korea. Both players parred the par-4 18th twice in the playoff before moving to the 10th hole at the LPGA Busan Internatio­nal course, where Jang’s three clinched it. ... England’s Steven Brown won the Portugal Masters in Vilamoura to claim his first European Tour title. Brown finished one stroke ahead of South Africans Justin Walters and Brandon Stone.

Soccer: Mohamed Salah completed the recovery after Liverpool conceded in the first minute against Tottenham, clinching a 2-1 win from the penalty spot and restoring a six-point Premier League lead. Salah’s 75th-minute winner was the striker’s eighth goal. ... Debinha scored in the fourth minute and the North Carolina Courage went on to beat the Chicago Red Stars 4-0 in Cary, N.C., for the their second straight NWSL title.

Tennis: No. 1 seed Roger Federer won his hometown Swiss Indoors title in Basel for the 10th time by beating 20-year-old Aussie Alex de Minaur 6-2, 6-2.
