No. 6 Dunbar rolls over Patterson

Poets forced three turnovers, scoring on two

Sixth-ranked Dunbar showed up big on senior night, shutting out Patterson 36-0 to close the football regular season.

The Poets defense generated three turnovers. Davonta Ayers scored on a 30-yard intercepti­on return and Dion Crews-Harris scooped up a fumble recovery for a 41-yard touchdown.

Sophomore quarterbac­k Karon Moore helped in two touchdowns for Dunbar (8-1). His first came on a pass to wide receiver Tyreek Sykes in second quarter. His second came on a 1-yard rush.

St. Mary’s 21, Severn 3: After a sluggish first half, the Saints put together two scoring drives in the second half to win.

St. Mary’s (7-3) now gets ready for the postseason. The Saints are the No. 2 seed and will host either John Carroll or Archbishop Curley next weekend in a Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n B Conference semifinal.

“This was an important game for us,” St. Mary’s coach Jason Budroni said. “There’s a little trophy that goes with this game and keeping that trophy is very important to us. That was our goal this week and every season.”

Boys’ Latin 24, St. Paul’s 14: The visiting Lakers (4-4, 4-4 MIAA B Conference) beat the Crusaders (2-7, 2-6). The win marked the second win in the past three games. St. Paul’s suffered its third-straight loss.

Northeast 9, Chesapeake-AA 7: Kayla Alexander kicked a 26-yard field goal with 6:55 left to play to lift the host Eagles (4-5) over the Cougars (4-5) in the Dena Bowl.

River Hill 14, Howard 7: River Hill earned a share of the Howard County championsh­ip for the second time in three years.

Anthony Behrmann had 27 carries for 148 yards and a 50-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, while Zach Igwebe added 103 yards rushing and a score on 22 carries. Beau Brade pitched in with 61 yards on eight carries for the Hawks (8-1), who didn’t attempt a pass and clinched the No. 1 seed in the 3A East regional playoffs.

Marriotts Ridge 35, Atholton 7: The Mustangs clinched their first Howard County championsh­ip. Led by Ryan Reeling’s two rushing touchdowns and a ferocious defense that allowed fewer than 100 yards of offense, Marriotts Ridge will share the county crown with River Hill and Glenelg. today’s game between Huntingtow­n and Wilde Lake in next Saturday’s state semifinal at Linganore.

Century 5, Lansdowne 0: Century senior captain Jackson Glenn controlled the midfield and scored two goals to lead the Knights (13-4) past the host Vikings (11-2-2) in the Class 2A state quarterfin­als.

Alex Grasso added a goal and assist and Ryan Rolfes and Daniel Cooper also scored. Kyle Kropfelder and Brennan Deibel added assists.

Girls soccer

No. 6 Severna Park 4, No. 10 Arundel 1: The host Falcons (13-2-2) beat the Wildcats (10-4) in a Class 4A state quarterfin­al. Severna Park will play the winner of today’s game between Winston Churchill and Quince Orchard in next Saturday’s state semifinal at Gaithersbu­rg.

Field hockey

No. 1 Archbishop Spalding 2, No. 9 Notre Dame Prep 0: Bree Stalnaker and Kristin O’Neill each scored and the host Cavaliers (18-2-1) shut out the Blazers (9-9-2) in an Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland A Conference semifinal. The victory marked the 12th shutout win, the 12th win in a row and the fourth shutout victory in a row. Spalding will face No. 2 Garrison Forest, a 1-0 winner over No. 5 McDonogh, in Sunday’s championsh­ip at Stevenson. Notre Dame Prep was denied the opportunit­y to three-peat the title game.

No. 3 Liberty 8, Kent County 0: The Lions (16-0) polished off Kent County in the 1A quarterfin­als for their fourth consecutiv­e state semifinal berth. The Lions got four goals from senior Caroline Evans and three from junior Kayleigh Ward, with senior Riley Pardoe handing out three assists. They enjoyed a running clock for the better part of the second half.

Liberty scored four times in the first 18 minutes of the game and controlled things from the start, a point of emphasis for the state quarterfin­als.

Bryn Mawr 2, St. Mary’s 0: Shayna Brodman and Maddie Gwyther each scored to lead the host Mawrtians (10-3-1) past the Saints (10-3-1) in an IAAM B Conference semifinal. Lexi Redrick made two saves in the shutout for Bryn Mawr, which will face John Carroll, a 3-1 winner over No. 13 Mount de Sales, in Sunday’s championsh­ip at Archbishop Spalding.

John Carroll 3, No. 13 Mount de Sales 1: Coach Alice Puckett got her 400th career victory as the visiting Patriots (12-5) beat the Sailors (10-6-1) in an IAAM B Conference semifinal. Goal scorers for John Carroll were Kendall Rittmeyer, Emma Campitelli and Katelyn Patrick.

Old Mill 1, Winston Churchill 0: Jade Kakuk scored the game-winner assisted by Kaiya Sabur as the Patriots (10-5) beat the host Bulldogs (14-1) in a Class 4A state quarterfin­al game.

Westminste­r 4, Rockville 0: It’s defense that might well be leading Westminste­r (12-5) to another state championsh­ip season after an impressive 3A quarterfin­al victory. The Owls boast freshman Miranda Moshang, juniors Ani Gardner and Sydney Schinknai, and senior Emma Border along their back row.

Westminste­r lost 3-0 to South Carroll on Oct. 14, but since then the Owls have allowed one goal with back-to-back shutouts.

Jess Kent paced the Owls’ offense with one goal and two assists.

River Hill 2, Franklin 0: Quinn Kindbom and Claire Slade each scored to lead the Hawks (12-4-1) over the Indians (7-7) in a Class 3A state quarterfin­al. The goal was Kindbom’s 16th of the season, while Slade brought her postseason goals total to (four).
