Young left knee injury could be season-ending

Nickel CB missed entire campaigns in 2019 and ’17

Ravens nickel cornerback Tavon Young suffered a likely season-ending left knee injury in the first quarter of the team’s 33-16 win Sunday over the Houston Texans, coach John Harbaugh said.

“We love him and we’ll be with him every step of the way,” Harbaugh said.

Young forced an incompletion in coverage and fell to the ground clutching his knee. He walked to the team’s locker room shortly afterward under his own power.

Young missed all of the 2019 season with a neck injury he suffered in training camp. He also missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

Marlon Humphrey, who played extensively in the slot last season, slid inside to Young’s position while Anthony Averett and Jimmy Smith played more snaps at outside cornerback opposite Marcus Peters.

Young’s diagnosis continued a stretch of injuries in Week 2 of the NFL season.

Stars such as San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa and New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley were among a list of high-profile names who left games with injuries. Bosa and Barkley are feared to have suffered torn ACLs.

LT Stanley, CB Smith active

Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley and cornerback Smith were active for the team’s

road game Sunday after being listed as questionable to play.

Stanley missed practice Wednesday with a hip injury, but was a limited participant Thursday and practiced fully Friday. He hurt his ankle in the season-opening win over the Browns last week and left the

game. Smith, who is also dealing with a hip injury, did not practice Wednesday and was a limited participant Thursday and Friday.

Running back Justice Hill, who missed the team’s Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns with a thigh injury and was listed as questionable, was inactive.

Quarterback Trace McSorley, wide receiver Chris Moore (finger), rookie safety Geno Stone, rookie guard Ben Bredeson and rookie defensive tackle Justin Madubuike (knee) were also inactive.

Safety Jordan Richards, who on Saturday was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster for a second straight week, was active.

Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks (quad) and offensive lineman Tytus Howard (ankle), two starters who were listed as questionable, were active. Running back Duke Johnson (ankle) was inactive, as were cornerback Cornell Armstrong, linebackers Jonathan Greenard and Peter Kalambayi (hamstring), offensive lineman Charlie Heck and tight end Pharaoh Brown.

Extra points

■ Unlike the Ravens’ season opener at home against the Cleveland Browns, the Texans opted against pumping crowd noise into an empty NRG Stadium. Ravens players last week said the volume was low enough that they could hear the opposing team’s calls.

“There was no [fans] last week too, so it really didn’t bother me,” quarterback Lamar Jackson said. “We had to focus on what he had to do on our side of the ball. The defense was adjusting to us. I wasn’t listening to the defensive calls.”

■ Safety DeShon Elliott recorded the first sack of his career in his second start. He also added four tackles and two quarterback hits, tied for second-most on the defense.
