GOLDSBOROU­GH, C. Fenner

Charles Fenner Goldsborou­gh, 93, a Baltimore native, passed on to be with the Lord on December 19th, 2020, at his home in Gaylord, Michigan. His devoted wife of 27 years, Joann Linaburg Goldsborou­gh, was by his side.

He was born in Baltimore, April 16th, 1927, the son of Philips Lee Goldsborou­gh, Jr. and Eveline Fenner Goldsborou­gh. He and his two siblings, Philips Lee Goldsborou­gh, III and Nancy Goldsborou­gh Winkler, who predecease­d him, spent their childhood in Roland Park. “Fenner” as he was known graduated from Gilman School in 1945. He then went on to serve his country in the Navy during WWII. Upon his return he attended the University of Virginia. He was a gifted athlete, playing lacrosse and tennis, and teaching tennis well into his later years. Fenner was a talented salesperso­n, owned an insurance agency for many years, and authored a book entitled Super Scam. In 1950 he married the mother of his children, Elizabeth Watmough of Ruxton, Maryland. Together they raised their three children on Caves Road where Fenner went to great lengths to create an environmen­t of fun, sports, and activities on their property for his family, friends and neighbors to enjoy. Activities included baseball, lacrosse, basketball, football, swimming, billiards and tennis played on a court he built himself employing child labor (his own). A loving, generous man with a wonderful sense of humor, Fenner will be missed by many.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joann; his three children, William Goldsborou­gh ( Deborah) of Gaylord, Michigan, Brice Goldsborou­gh ( Denise) of South Burlington, Vermont, and Jean Goldsborou­gh (Annie Rubright) of Reading, Vermont; four grandsons, Jeremy, Jay, Curtis, and Wesley; ten great-grandchild­ren; his step-daughter, Suzanne Housner; five nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will take place on January 7th, 2021, at Grace Baptist Church in Gaylord, Michigan. Military honors will follow the service. In lieu of flowers those who wish are asked to consider a memorial contributi­on to Grace Baptist Church.
