Film critics reward ‘Nomadland’

“Nomadland” won four awards at this year’s National Society of Film Critics awards, including best picture, best cinematogr­aphy, best director and best actress.

Chloe Zhao’s film won the most awards at the 55th annual meeting for the organizati­on on Saturday.

Frances McDormand was named best actress for her role in “Nomadland,” while Zhao received best director.

Maria Bakalova won best supporting actress for her role in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” and Paul Raci was given best supporting actor for his part in “Sound of Metal.”

Delroy Lindo won best actor for his role in Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods.” Other awards went to “Collective” for best foreign-language film, “Time” for the best nonfiction film. “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,” directed by Eliza Hittman, won for the best screenplay.

The National Society of Film Critics is made up of 60 film critics from across the U.S.

Strong words: Arnold Schwarzene­gger has denounced Wednesday’s attack on the Capitol, calling Donald Trump the “worst president ever.”

In a seven-minute video posted Sunday to Schwarzene­gger’s Twitter account, the actor and former governor of California compared Wednesday’s events with 1938’s Kristallna­cht, or the Night of Broken Glass, which marked the rise of Nazi Germany.

Schwarzene­gger said that his experience growing up in Europe has shown him “firsthand how things can spin out of control.” He then denounced Trump, saying that he “sought a coup by misleading people with lies.”

“My father and our neighbors were misled also with lies, and I know where such lies lead,” Schwarzene­gger continued. “President Trump is a failed leader. He will go down in history as the worst president ever. The good thing is he will soon be as irrelevant as an old tweet.”
