Reports: Wrist injury ends season for Ball

Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball is expected to miss the rest of the season with a fracture to his right wrist, according to reports Sunday night.

Ball, considered a frontrunne­r for NBA rookie of the year, will get a second opinion. He’s averaging 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists.

Ball suffered the injury in a fall early in Saturday’s 125-98 loss to the Clippers in Los Angeles. He played in the second half despite struggling with discomfort in the wrist, and finished with 13 points.

Baseball: Reds 1B Joey Votto returned to camp after sitting out with COVID-19. Votto, 37, left camp March 10 and had been isolated since.

NBA: The league fined Raptors coach Nick Nurse $50,000 for throwing his face mask behind the scorer’s table and toward the stands, plus for directing profanity toward game officials before leaving the floor at the end of 115-112 loss to the Jazz on Friday.

Soccer: Jackson Yueill redirected Sebastian Salcedo’s cross for the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute, second-half substitute Hassani Dotson added a pair of goals and the U.S. beat the Dominican Republic 4-0 in Olympic group-play qualifying in Guadalajar­a, Mexico. The U.S. men’s team is trying to reach the Olympics for the first time since 2012. ... Leicester City advanced to the semifinals of the FA Cup for the first time in 39 years with a 3-1 win over Manchester United.

Tennis: Serena Williams pulled out of the upcoming Miami Open, citing recent oral surgery. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer announced earlier they would skip the event, which starts Tuesday. Djokovic pulled out Friday, citing coronaviru­s restrictio­ns. The tournament is allowing only 750 fans on the grounds per session. Nadal pulled out Tuesday, citing his bad back. Federer, mounting a comeback from knee surgery, withdrew March 1. They’re based overseas, as is Djokovic.
