Children’s nonprofit subpoenaed in probe

Federal grand jury investigating both Marilyn, Nick Mosby

A Baltimore children’s nonprofit has been subpoenaed in the federal grand jury investigation of City Council President Nick Mosby and State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, the program director confirmed Wednesday.

Sharayna Christmas, executive director of Muse 360, said she received a subpoena March 11 requesting records related to any charitable donations made by the Mosbys to her organization. She said the Mosbys sent their children to her dance studio, and she was not aware of any significant donations made by the couple.

“They just want information,” Christmas said of the federal investigators.

The children’s program adds to the wide range of groups subpoenaed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office this month. The Baltimore Sun previously reported that city churches received subpoenas, as well as private companies owned by Nick and Marilyn Mosby and their political campaigns. The federal grand jury investigation was disclosed in a subpoena sent to Marilyn Mosby’s campaign treasurer, which he forwarded in an email to state election officials.

The Sun obtained the document through a Public Information Act request with the state.

The scope of the investigation is unknown. An attorney for one of the churches subpoenaed told The Sun last week that any contributions made by the Mosbys were negligible.

An attorney for the Mosbys has called the investigation a “political witch hunt,” and said the Mosbys did nothing wrong and will cooperate with the investigation.

“As they’ve done with every other baseless charge and investigation lodged against them, they have every intent to fully cooperate with the investigation, to fight for the truth to come out, while continuing to fight for the citizens of a city that they both love, and are blessed to serve,” the attorney, A. Scott Bolden, said in a statement Friday.
