FSK, Liberty win regional titles

Westminste­r, Arundel field hockey, Century, Glenelg boys soccer win regions

Field hockey and soccer teams throughout Maryland took home some regional championsh­ip hardware on Wednesday:

Field hockey

Class 1A West

F.S. Key 1, Catoctin 0: The Boyer sisters came up big as Brooke passed to Hannah, who scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the second half of the Region II final. The host Eagles improved to 11-2 and the Cougars fell to 5-8.

Francis Scott Key took six shots on goal. Eagles goalie Gillian Gladden made one save.

Liberty 3, South Carroll 2: Caroline Bacon, Caitlyn Szarko and Riley Matthiesen scored goals to lead the host Lions (8-4-1) over the Cavaliers (7-5) in the Region I final. Szarko, Matthiesen and Jenna Evans had assists. Emma Meissner had 14 saves for the Lions.

Class 3A North

Bel Air 11, Edgewood 0

Westminste­r 4, Franklin 1: Bridget Sheehy scored two goals to lead the Owls (7-6) past the host Indians (6-6) in the Region I final.

Class 2A South

Glenelg 8, Hammond 0: Ashley Kim and Kamryn Henson each scored twice to lead the host Gladiators (13-1) past the Bears (7-6) in the Region II final. AJ Eyre had a goal and an assist and Brinkley Eyre had two assists for Glenelg.

Class 2A West

Manchester Valley 1, Century 0: Courtney Bell scored the game-winner to lift the Mavericks (10-4) over the host Knights (10-5-1) in the Region II final.

A Conference

Garrison Forest 3, Bryn Mawr 0

Spalding 2, McDonogh 0: The secondseed­ed Cavaliers (15-1) scored two secondhalf goals against third-seeded McDonogh to punch a ticket to Saturday’s IAAM A Conference final. The championsh­ip game will be held at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s High’s Pascal Field.

Class 4A North

Dulaney 6, N, County 0

Class 4A East

Broadneck 4, Leonardtow­n 0

Severna Park 3, Old Mill 0: Delanie Abere, Ava Zimmerman and Danielle Bomk each netted goals as the Falcons advanced to the state quarterfin­als. Bekah Mayron had an assist.

Class 3A South

Arundel 3, Chesa.-AA 0: Lana Hamilton, Christina Candella and Morgan Gore each scored goals to lead the Wildcats into the state quarterfin­als.

Class 3A East

Marriotts Ridge 3, Mt. Hebron 2: Senior defender Sophia Haghgoo scored her second goal of the game with 1:16 left in regulation to give the Mustangs (10-4) a victory to advance to the state quarterfin­als.

River Hill 7, Atholton 1: Midfielder Maddie Vasilios scored three goals, and the Hawks racked up more goals in the first half than host Atholton had allowed all season in win to advance to the state quarterfin­als.

Southern4,KentCounty­1: Ava Wooster has a hat trick to lead the Bulldogs into the state quarterfin­als.

Boys soccer

Class 2A West

Century 3, Liberty 2: Senior Tyler Powell knocked home the winning penalty kick in the shootout to lead the Knights to a 6-5 penalty shootout victory. Austin Wadlington scored both goals for Liberty while Aydin Armstrong and Powell scored in regulation for Century. Class 1A North

Girls soccer

Class 2A West

Glenelg 6, Poolesvill­e 0: Stephanie Lathrop had a hat trick, Brianna Werner scored twice and the Gladiators added another strike on an own goal to earn a shutout. Bailey Allmon, Werner, Ginny Sung and Lathrop each had one assist. Bella Buscher made one save to secure her eighth shutout of the season for the Gladiators (12-2), who led 3-0 at halftime.

Loch Raven 2, Francis Scott Key 1

IAAM semifinals

A Conference

McDonogh 3, Notre Dame Prep 1: Kelsey Smith, Elle Long and Gracie Salais scored goals for the Eagles (15-2), who will take on Spalding in Saturday’s 7 p.m. title game at Calvert Hall.

Spalding 3, St. Paul’s 1: Junior forward Danielle Gargano scored two second-half goals — both assisted by sophomore Gabby Wisbeck — to help send the Cavaliers (11-4) to Saturday’s title game against McDonogh.

B Conference

Mt. de Sales 1, Maryvale 0

Severn 1, Concordia Prep 1: With both teams locked at one goal apiece through two overtimes, Severn’s Abby Witzel, Alina Valencia, Elliot Wienk and Madison Watson all scored in penalty kicks to secure the Admirals’ trip to the Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland B Conference championsh­ip game.

The game will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. at Calvert Hall.
