Gibson, Harford Tech coast to victory

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action from Thursday.

Girls basketball Harford Tech 72, Aberdeen 28:

Anyia Gibson posted a triple-double with a career-high 31 points to go with 10 rebounds and 12 blocks to lead Harford Tech. She also picked up four steals. Amya Goodsell finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and seven assists. Jessica Castro chipped in 13 points.

The Hawks overcame a slow start to secure the win. Caroline Nicholson led the way with 14 points, six rebounds and two assists. Lillian Duffy added 10 points, six rebounds and three assists and Jenna Amhrein added eight points.

North Harford 40, Perryville 30:

Azareya Whiting led the host Warriors with 16 points, six rebounds and six steals. Carla Dunson had 15 points, five rebounds and three steals, Sanai Knox added six points and six rebounds, and freshman Ryleigh Curry scored five points for Havre de Grace.

Havre de Grace 46, Bel Air 7:

The Lions trailed by five at halftime but turned the game around with an 18-2 run in the third quarter. They allowed just 10 points the entire second half. Jenna Liska led the win with 18 points, while Dani Paulsen and Kourtney Goff each added 12 points.

Liberty 61, Urbana 41: Boys basketball Urbana 71, Liberty 66 OT:

Liberty let an eight-point halftime lead slip away before rallying to force overtime on a buzzer-beater by Cole Jernigan. But Urbana went 6-of-8 from the free-throw line to seal the win. Jernigan led the Lions (13-3) with 23 points, while Phil Sackett backed him with 16 and Derek Goff scored 11.

With the game tied at 49, Jordan Ross hit a clutch 3-pointer to give the Mustangs the lead. Bel Air got back within a point and had a chance to win in the final seconds, but CMW prevented the Bobcats from getting a shot off. Kyle Ashman scored 18 points to lead the Mustangs (13-3) to their 10th straight win.

C. Milton Wright 52, Bel Air 51: Joppatowne 74, Coppin Academy 61:

Kendall Pollock scored a game-high 27 points to lead the visiting Mariners past the Eagles. Jamar McCleod had 22 points for Coppin Academy.

Wrestling Sparrows Point 55, Eastern Tech 24:

The Mavericks were down four starters for their final home dual of the season but still gave the Pointers a test. Anthony Oge earned a pin at 195 to lead Eastern Tech.

Manchester Valley 68, Mt. Ridge 10:

The Mavericks stormed to the win with Dakota Barnard (113 pounds), Bradyn VanDervoor­t (126), Ethan Kaminski (132), Blake Ray (152), Travis Green (160), Jake Boog (170), Braeden Fourhman (195) and Derek Martin (285) picking up pins. Lance Chapman (106) and Camden Yowell (138) picked up major decisions.

Manchester Valley 72, St. James 8:

The Mavericks completed the tri-meet sweep with a big win over the hosts. Ryan Hydorn (120), Bradyn VanDervoor­t (126), Camden Yowell (138), Blake Ray (145), Travis Green (152), Nick Farfoglia (160), Jake Boog (170), Gunnar Grimm (182), Braeden Fourhman (195), Cru Boog (220) and Derek Martin (285) earned pins.
