Hawks hire Snyder to replace fired McMillan

Quin Snyder has been hired as coach of the Hawks to replace the fired Nate McMillan, the team announced Sunday.

Terms of the agreement weren’t immediately disclosed, but ESPN reported that the contract is for five years. The Hawks fired McMillan early last week, when GM Landry Fields stressed that the team’s eighth-place standing in the Eastern Conference wasn’t acceptable for a team that advanced to the conference finals in 2021.

The 56-year-old Snyder is expected to make his debut Tuesday at home against the Wizards.

Snyder was coach of the Jazz from the 2014-15 to 2021-22 seasons, leading the team to the playoffs in six of his eight seasons. He was an assistant coach with the Hawks during the 2013-14 season on head coach Mike Budenholzer’s staff.

NHL: Barry Trotz is rejoining the Predators in their front office, succeeding David Poile, the only GM in the team’s franchise’s history. The change will take effect at the end of June. Poile, 73, will step into a position as an adviser to ownership, business and hockey operations. Trotz, 60, coached the Preds from before the team’s inception in 1998 through 2014 and owns the record for the most wins in team history.

Soccer: Manchester United beat Newcastle 2-0 in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium in London. Casemiro headed United in front in the 33rd minute and Sven Botman’s own-goal made it 2-0 in the 39th. It’s United’s first trophy since winning a League Cup and Europa League double uin 2017.
