Beavers batter Bismarck at home

GLEN ROSE — The Bismarck Lions scored the first points and the final points of the game Friday in Glen Rose.

However, the Beavers used an impressive scoring barrage to dominate their visitors en route to a 49-14 victory.

Glen Rose (5-1, 3-0) fell behind on the first play of this 5-3A contest.

Bismarck’s Braden Efrid returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown. The kick by Connor Corley gave the Lions a 7-0 lead.

The Beavers then bounced back on their first possession of the game when Ethan Taylor scored on a 3-yard run.

Taylor’s run ignited Glen

Rose as it scored 49 unanswered points against the Lions.

The Beavers increased their lead thanks to an 87-yard pick-6 by Colton Hixon. The PAT was no good as the score was 13-7. Bismarck fell further behind when Glen Rose’s Dalton Taylor ran 9 yards for a TD. Following the kick, the Lions trailed 19-7.

Bismarck (1-5, 0-3) then turned the ball over on the ensuing kickoff as Glen Rose’s Noah Wright recovered the fumble. Eventually, Ethan Taylor found the end zone on a 7-yard carry. He also converted the 2-point conversion. With 2:25 remaining in the first quarter, Glen Rose led 27-7.

Early in the second quarter, Beaver defensive lineman Andrew Weatherfor­d pounced

on a Bismarck fumble. Glen Rose took advantage by adding to its lead when quarterbac­k Wesley Launius eased into the end zone on a 1-yard run. Dalton Taylor’s 2-point conversion run made the score 35-7 with 5:03 remaining until the intermissi­on.

The Lions trailed by 28 at halftime.

Glen Rose got the ball first in the third quarter. The Beavers easily marched down the field and into the end zone.

Launius ran 10 yards to score on a QB keeper. After the kick, the Beavers led 42-7 and the mercy rule was in effect.

In the fourth, Launius connected with Andrew Fletcher for a 49-yard touchdown pass. The Beaver lead was now 49-7.

Late in the game, Bismarck crossed the goal-line when quarterbac­k Ian Smith ran 10 yards for a TD.

When time expired, the Beavers had earned a 49-14 victory.

The Beavers will hit the road next week to Fouke to take on the Panthers. Fouke defeated Horatio 26-7 on Friday.
