Library to hold virtual speed dating event
The Saline County Library will be hosting a virtual speed dating event from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 13 on Zoom. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link and allow programmers to plan accordingly. Patrons can register here: https://bit. ly/3iuvbks.
This will mark the first virtual speed dating event from the Saline County Library. Participants will be paired with other single participants who are in search of that special someone. Every few minutes, participants will be moved to different “rooms” on Zoom to meet a new person. The programmers will provide ice-breaker questions to allow participants to start conversations.
Speed dating is a fun way for singles to meet. Since they can’t meet in person due to the ongoing pandemic, the library is hoping to fill the gap for singles this Valentine’s Day.
The library will also be offering a variety of other services for Valentine’s Day including Blind Date with a Book, Valentine’s Gift Bags and ecards created by the Community Engagement Department.
Blind Date with a Book starts on Feb. 1. Patrons can search “Blind Date with a Book” on the library’s online catalog or visit the library’s curbside table to see the different genres. For example, if a patron wants to have a date with Sci-fi, they can look for “Blind Date with a Book: Out of this World.” Each genre will have a line or two about them such as, “if you like your androids tall, dark and snarky, give me a glance.”
Patrons can purchase Valentine’s Gift Bags by filling out a form at https://bit.ly/3p3cr00. Each basket costs $10, and there are three types: Sweetheart, Teacher, or Child. Sweetheart bags contain two monogrammed wine glasses, a movie, candy, and a bag of popcorn. Teacher bags contain one monogrammed tumbler, two books, candy, and a bag of popcorn. Child bags contain one monogrammed water bottle, two books, candy, and a small stuffed animal. All bags will also contain a Papa John’s special coupon.
Patrons trying to figure out a simple, but great, gift for their loved one, the Saline County Library’s Community Engagement Department can help with that. Patrons can film a 20-second video telling their loved one how they feel about them and submit it to https://bit.ly/3slv09o. After receiving the video, an adult programmer will edit it with some music and graphics, then send the video back to the patron in time for Valentine’s Day. The deadline to submit your video is Feb. 11.
