Bryant swim ends season at state

BENTONVILL­E – The Bryant girls and boys swim team competed at the 6A Arkansas State Swimming Championsh­ips last Saturday in Bentonvill­e, with the Lady Hornets finishing seventh overall with 130 points and the Hornets 11th with 50 points.

Host Bentonvill­e would sweep both the boys and girls titles, with the girls scoring 441 points for the victory, as Central (360), Fayettevil­le (287), Bentonvill­e West (250) and Cabot (177) rounded out the top five.

Bryant junior Alana Gould would earn a medal with a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in a personal-record time of 25.66.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Aidan Halladay, sophomore Simone Dinstbier, junior Shelby Bratton and Gould set a new

PR and earned a medal with a fifth-place finish in a time of 1:48.40, almost three seconds better than their previous PR.

Bratton just missed out on a medal in the 100 backstroke, finishing seventh overall with a new PR time of 1:02.76. Gould would also take seventh in the 100 breaststro­ke in a time of 1:14.11, less than a second away from a PR.

For the Lady Hornets, they opened the meet with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, but set a new personal best with the foursome of freshman Isabella Sharp, Gould, Bratton and Dinstbier improving their previous time by three seconds with a 2:01.37.

In the 1-meter dive, Bryant junior Julianne Davis took ninth with a score of 184.60, with sophomore teammate Jessica Rolen 10th with a 180.60. Freshman Bailey Gould took 12th with 138.30 points.

Bratton set a PR in the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:04.90 for 10th place.

The 400 freestyle relay team also took 10th with Dinstbier, freshman Kayleigh Baker, Sharp and Halladay finishing in 4:10.84, almost two seconds away from a PR.

BOYS

Bentonvill­e would take the team title with 370 points, with Central a close second with 359 points. Conway (297), Bentonvill­e West (213) and Cabot (205) rounded out the top five.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the Hornets took 10th overall, with junior Samuel Vinson, senior Laquav Brumfield, senior Cameron Loftis and senior Hayden Smith finishing in 1:38.04, a new PR.

It was Vinson, sophomore Eli Matthews, freshman Jase Gladden and Smith also taking 10th in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:43.67, shattering their previous PR of 3:54.97.

The 200 medley relay team of Gladden, sophomore Aidan Shaw, Vinson and Smith just come up 0.20 seconds short of setting a PR, taking 11th overall in 1:51.65.

Hornet sophomore Hunter Heatley would take 13th overall in the 1-meter five with a score of 103.65, with senior teammate Brumfield right behind him at 14th with 103.35 points.

Smith set a new PR in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.91 for 14th place.
