First Amendment disagreement

- JIM HARRIS C ONSERVATIVE CORNER

The first 16 words of the First Amendment to the American Constitution show how important the Founding Fathers were about the freedom of religion.

Those first words in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights are: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...”

The U.S. House of Representatives has recently passed the misnamed bill called the “Equality Act.”

Franklin Graham, son of the late Billy Graham, is one of today’s best known Christian leaders. He is warning this nation about this bill he calls “deceiving” and “has nothing to do with equality.”

“It’s just a smokescreen to force Americans to accept the LGBTQ agenda and it creates a lot of INEQUALITY for Christians and all people of faith,” Graham warned. “It punishes individuals and organizations that disagree based on their moral convictions.”

The law basically says homosexuality in its many forms is not a sin.

Many times in the Old

Testament and the New

Testament the Bible makes clear it is a sin.

God created humans to engage in sex only within the arrangement of marriage between a male and a female.

The Bible condemns sexual activity that is not between a husband and wife. It doesn’t matter if it is homosexual or heterosexual conduct.

Those who wish to force the LBGTQ agenda on all Americans claim this is “hate” and should not be allowed to be taught by churches or any where else.

These same people refuse to acknowledge that God tells his people to hate the sin — not the sinner.

To that end, Democrats and their “anybody should be allowed to have sex with anybody or anything at any time” agenda have come up with the Equality Act.

“If passed into law, the Equality Act could prohibit religious organizations—jewish, Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, all—and churches from hiring only like-minded people who believe what they believe,” Graham said.

Not hiring church staff just because a person does not believe what the Bible says would be discrimination under this bill.

If you don’t recognize it, that is prohibiting the free exercise of religion.

The bill basically says that there can be no recognition of any differences between men and woman as well as the multiple other “genders” liberals have dreamed up. Graham added that the legislation would “destroy women’s and girls’ sports in this country” in favor of biological males selfidentified as female “to compete for titles, scholarships, and recognition at all age levels.”

Women’s privacy in public places including “locker rooms, dressing rooms, homeless shelters, restrooms, and more” would also be affected, he said.

“God made us male and female, and that’s it,” Graham said. “With some 6,000 years of human history, it has only been in the last few years that people have come up with all of these additional designations for gender identity.”

While this legislation is awaiting action in the U.S. Senate, an old man sitting in the White House is waiting to sign it into law. If the emocrats holding the reigns of power manage to make this abomination the law of the land, that will be a clear violation of the part of the First Amendment that says: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.”

Graham urged Americans to contact their senators to express their concerns about the Equality Act.

Just a personal note here: I am a proud citizen of the United States of America. However, I also hold citizenship in the Kingdom of God.

Congress passing legislation that tells me the authority of the federal government is more powerful than the Word of God — which is what the Equality Act does — makes me and every Bible-believing person in this country take a side.

As for me, I am on the side of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Being on the side that says man — not God — can determine what is or is not sin will not end well.

I know this for two reasons. First, history shows that men who seek to replace God as the greatest power of this world always come to a bad end.

Second, and most importantly, no matter how far man drifts from the Bible, God always is proved right.

I know this because I’ve read His book.
