Easter Bunny to visit SC for Egg My Yard!
The Easter bunny is set to help out Civitan Services during its Egg My Yard! fundraiser.
Civitan will surprise children either April 2 or 3 by hiding eggs. They will also get a stuffed bunny with a note from the Easter bunny and even a picture of the Easter bunny in their own yard to prove he was there, said Special Events Coordinator Bekka Wilkerson.
“It was such a huge success,” Wilkerson said about the first year for Egg My Yard!
She said it was born out of necessity. When the pandemic hit and Civitan had to close, it still needed to raise funds to keep it going. Wilkerson had her friend from another state tell her about something similar. She immediately ordered plastic eggs and started making plans. Civitan ended up putting out 1,600 eggs.
“This gave us a way to raise money, celebrate Easter and socially distanced,” Wilkerson said.
She feels Egg My Yard is still needed this year. She added the staff were also excited to do it again.
This year Wilkerson ordered 2,000 and eggs and was given 1,000 more.
Each of the eggs will be filled with either allergy friendly candy or toys.
Those purchasing an egg package can choose to have the items delivered on April 2 or 3. There are also three tier options — 25 eggs for $30, 50 eggs for $50 or 75 eggs for $70.
Wilkerson said those tiers can be mixed and matched if needed, such as getting the 25 and 75 tier both if someone wants 100 eggs or they could get 50 eggs for themselves and 50 for someone else.
Wilkerson said grandparents like
to do this for their grandchildren.
Civitan can hide eggs at homes all over Saline County and surrounding areas.
Wilkerson feels this event is a great opportunity for Civitan to get out in the community and provide an event that is accessible to every one and let its clients take part.
So far, 1,100 eggs have been spoken for. Wilkerson said there are plenty more. She encourages the community to register to get their yards egged for Easter.
Wilkerson said every penny raised for the organization counts toward its mission to serve men, women and children in Saline County with developmental disabilities. She appreciates the community and its continued support.
