Cardinal offensive outburst leads to win

MAGNET COVE – With a 2-1 lead after two innings, the Harmony Grove Cardinals put up a 9-spot in the third and did not stop scoring in an eventual 18-11 victory over the Magnet Cove Panthers Friday morning in the Magnet Cove Spring Break Tournament.

The Cardinals (9-3), which played Woodlawn Friday afternoon in the tourney, banged out 17 hits in the high-scoring affair in the morning win.

Harmony Grove picked up a run in the top of the first inning when senior Chase Chilton reached on a two-out single and scored on junior West Lock’s double before Magnet Cove tied things up in the bottom of the inning on a two-out solo home run.

Seely doubled to begin the top of the second and senior courtesy runner Hayden Toler scored on senior Trey Miller’s RBI single for the 2-1 lead, which it remained after two.

The Cardinals put two runners on with two outs in the top of the third before junior Hayden Lumpkins was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Miller walked to force in a run and senior Cooper White scored on an error for the

lowed with an RBI double and Lock singled in two more before White singled in one for the 11-1 lead.

The Panthers fought back, though, scoring five runs apiece in the third and fourth innings to tie things at 11-all before the Cardinals retook the lead in the top of the fifth when Chilton scored on an error and Miller hit a basesclear­ing double for the 15-11 lead.

Harmony Grove added a run in the sixth on Chilton’s RBI single and three more in the seventh on Potter’s 2-run double and Chilton’s single to left again to set the final score.

Chilton had a monster game going 5 for 6 with a double, three runs and two RBIS, adding four stolen bases on the day. Potter went 4 for 6 with two doubles, three runs and three RBIS, swiping two bags of his own.

Lock finished 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIS, with Miller knocking in five runs while going 2 for 3.
