-

Ammon Alexander Billings Jr., 76, of Bryant, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ammon was born on May 7, 1945, to Dr. and Mrs. Ammon Billings Sr. in Malvern.

After graduating from Malvern High School in 1963, he went on to earn his BSE and MSE from Henderson State University. While attending college, he met the love of his life Carolyn Waters Billings. He and Carolyn would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Oct. 6, 2021. He loved to tell the story of seeing her across the student union and knew he was in love.

Following graduation, Ammon taught science and math for three years at Sikeston Public Schools in Sikeston, Missouri. They later moved to Bryant, where they raised their three daughters. Anyone who knew Ammon knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. He was so proud of his daughters, Alecia Anne, Ashley Dell and Andrea Ruth. He continually told his children how proud he was of them and how much they were loved.

Ammon worked as a guidance counselor for Bryant Public Schools for 33 years. He advised and guided thousands of students through their junior high and later high school courses. He always shared the joy he experienced by helping students navigate the teenage years. He is remembered for his many words of wisdom. “This too shall pass” or “what you put into something is what you get out of it” were frequently heard by those close to him. Ammon truly believed that there is good in everyone.

Ammon was preceded in death by his parents, Ammon and Ruth; a sister, Ann Billings Anderson (Hammond, Louisiana, and Vienna, Virginia); and a brother ,Norman Billings (San Antonio, Texas).

Ammon is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters,
