Honoring Bauxite’s best Bauxite Hall of Fame Wall of Honor
From congratulations, handshakes, hugs and humble and grateful tears, the 2021 Bauxite Hall of Fame banquet was once again a huge success.
Since its inception in 2006, the Bauxite Hall of Fame has honored 78 individual inductees into the Sports Hall of Fame, as well as eight sports teams and one group of state champion cheerleaders. The Wall of Honor inductees now total 49.
Inductees in all divisions of the Bauxite Hall of Fame are selected from nominations submitted to the Hall of Fame Committee.
The 2021 inductees included Sam Talkington and Elmer Childress, Distinguished Alumni Awards. This award is given to Bauxite High School alumni who have achieved great success in their life careers. Their professional, as well as their personal life, has reflected honorably upon Bauxite and Bauxite Schools.
Earl Lindsey, a wellknown Bauxite businessman, was recognized post-mortem with the Exemplary Service Award. His son, Tom Lindsey, and daughter, Sandra Lindsey Birmingham, accepted the award in his honor. This award is given to a person that has demonstrated service to Bauxite Schools and/ or the community and has been a desirable model for others to follow.
Dr. Russell Burton accepted the Meritorious Service Award, post-mortem, in honor of former Bauxite High School principal and superintendent, O. C. Hopper, and his wife, Lucille Hopper, a high school business education instructor. The Meritorious Service Award recognizes those who have unselfishly given of their time, efforts and/or talents in support of others’ needs.
The 2021 Bauxite Hall of Fame inductees for their outstanding accomplishments in athletics at Bauxite High School were Tom Lindsey, Jeff Burrow, Rikki Marshall Yarbrough, David Gibbs, and the 1986-87 Lady Miners Basketball Team.
The Sports Hall of Fame recipients must be graduates of Bauxite High School at least ten years prior to their nomination. They must provide proof of their accomplishments above and beyond All-conference status in order to be certified by the Hall of Fame committee.
Tom Lindsey, a three year letterman for the Bauxite Miners football team, was selected for the All State team his senior year. He also played four years of basketball at Bauxite. Lindsey was a starting member of the first Bauxite Junior High School football team in 1950.
Jeff Burrow, as a threeyear member of the Bauxite High School track team, was selected All State those three years. Burrow was a member of the 1983 undefeated football team. In 1984, he was voted All District, Most Valuable Offensive Player, MVP on the Team, and All State.
Rikki Marshall Yarbrough began her athletic career at Bauxite in junior high basketball in 2003. During her high school junior year in 2007, she was named Bauxite’s Offensive Player of the Year, Bauxite Scholar Athlete and All Conference. During her senior year, 2008, Yarbroughl was named All Conference, All State, Bauxite Offensive MVP as well as All Saline County Athlete of the Year. She scored a total of 1,063 career points.
