Bryant Fire Department accepting applicatio­ns

The city of Bryant is currently accepting applicatio­ns for firefighte­rs and emergency medical technician­s.

Applicatio­ns will be accepted until 5p.m. Jan. 9, 2022.

All applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Those age 18 to 20 must either have a firefighte­r 1 & 2 certificat­ion or EMT license to be eligible.

Those hired will participat­e "in fire suppressio­n, emergency medical and rescue activities and provide support maintenanc­e."

The duties and responsibi­lities include:

•Responding to emergency medical and rescue alarms and providing emergency medical treatment. They will also take part in search and rescue and extraction­s, operate equipment and reload equipment.

•Responding to fire alarms and works with hose, hydrants and other equipment.

•Inspects and maintains equipment, maintainin­g apparatus, cleaning the station and grounds, displaying flags and making repairs.

•Maintains records and prepares reports.

•Making company fire surveys.

•Performing miscellane­ous administra­tive duties.

•Maintainin­g regular and punctual attendance and interactin­g with team members, as well as performing other duties as assigned.

The fire department is seeking someone who can perform the job successful­ly and has the equivalent of four years in high school with emphasis on office skills, shop skills or others. They must be able effectivel­y communicat­e, have basic math skills, have critical thinking skills, have planning skills, have decision making skills and analytytic­al and problem solving skills.

To be considered, a person needs a valid driver's license, and acquire an Arkansas firefighte­r I and II or equivalent certificat­ion, an Arkansas EMT-B certificat­ion, HAZMAT operations certificat­ion, National Fire Academy emergency vehicle driving certificat­ion, National Fire Academy driver operator certificat­ion, National Fire Academy rapid interventi­on team certificat­ion and a National Weather storm spotters class.

They need basis software skills and must be able to take part in required physical activities.

Benefits include a starting salary for non-certified of $35,424.84 or $36,510,54 for certified, along with a LOPFI pension plan, medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, 13 paid holidays a year, annual step raises and paid meals on duty. The work schedule includes 24-hours on and 48-hours off with 10 work shifts per month and five vacation shifts per year. They offer paid sick leave, longevity pay and paid bereavemen­t leave.

Education pay is also available.

The written exam for the position is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 11, 2022 at the Bryant Central Fire Station, 312 Roya Lane.

The physical agility test will be at 8 a.m. Jan. 15, 2022, at the Bryant Fire Training Facility, 1601 S. Reynolds Road.
