BRYANT – Bryant senior golfer Daniel Taylor will be taking his talents to Christian Brothers University next season after signing with the Bucs last week at the Hornet’s Nest in Bryant. Playing in Bryant’s top five since his freshman season, Taylor has led the Hornets the past several years and reasoned why he chose Christian Brothers.

“They play in a great conference and I wanted to play against good competition,” Taylor said. “The coach really had some faith in me the whole time I was being recruited and it made me feel like that was home.”

Christian Brothers is a NCAA Division II school located in Memphis and the

Bucs’ interest never waned on Taylor.

“There were a couple of other schools, but as they faded, Christian Brothers got more interested, so it was kind of a godsend,” Taylor said.

Taylor was key in the Hornets winning the 6A Central Conference title his junior season, shooting a 2-under 70, which also helped the Hornets to a second-place finish at state. Though he struggled the next day that year with an 82, Taylor still earned Allstate honors and flipped the script his senior season.

A troubling start at conference with an 82, Taylor shot 10 strokes better for an even-par 70, earning Allstate honors once again his final year.

“He’s going to be a huge asset to their team,” Bryant

Coach Casey Mattox said. “He finished All-conference and All-state in 2020. He was the medalist last year and went to boys overall. He improved 10 strokes on the second day this year to make All-state. I’m really proud of him, on and off the course, and look forward to watching him play in college.”

Taylor, who plans to earn a management degree, said he was just doing what he could do for his team.

“We had a really good group of guys and got the job done,” he said. “Won our conference and that was the first time we did that at Bryant, so that was really big for us. I was a good team player and really felt like I grew and got better here.”
