Parks to hold committee meeting and workshop

The Bryant Parks Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Boswell Municipal Complex, followed by a workshop to discuss the committee's bi-laws.

During the meeting, the committee plans to hear the financial report and consider meeting dates for 2022.

The members also plan to consider the agreements with the Bryant Boys & Girls Clubs and the Bryant Senior Activity Center. Both agreements deal with the continued use of locations at Bishop Park.

After the committee meeting, the members will go into a workshop. Parks Director Chris Treat said he does not believe the bi-laws have been updated since the committee formed and are outdated.

The section they are discussing deals with the role of the committee. Treat said currently the bi-laws has roles such as developing a website, which the department has had for a long time. Treat said the bi-laws also seem geared toward when the department had a much smaller staff than it has currently.

Treat said two of the priorities of the update will be making the roles of the committee more focused on advocating for the parks and more outreach to the community.

The department is beginning work on a Master Plan and the committee will be working to get more involvement and input from the community on the future of Bryant Parks.

Treat said members have been looking over the bi-laws for months and will start discussions during the workshop.

The suggestions will go to Treat to put together the changes. He said the earliest the committee could vote on them would be January.

If the committee approves the updates, the full council will have to vote on them.

Meetings are open to the public. All meetings are streamed to the Bryant, Arkansas Youtube Channel for view.
