Lady Panthers 2nd at Roberts Relays

VILONIA – After the Benton Panthers took first and the Lady Panthers second at the Lakeside Ram Relays last week in Hot Springs, the Lady Panthers again would take second and the Panthers fifth at the Jerry Roberts Relays Thursday in Vilonia.

The Lady Panthers took second overall with 79.5 points, with host Vilonia dominating with 168 points. Mountain Home (48), Little Rock Christian (47) and Yellville-summit (44.5) rounded out the top five of 19 total teams competing.

Vilonia again won on the boys side, getting 143.5 points, with Mountain Home (104), Beebe (79), Sylvan Hills (61) and Benton (60.5) rounding out the top five of 18 teams.

The Lady Hornets, not showing a full team but individual athletes competing, would get a first-place finish in the pole vault, with junior Jessica Rolen vaulting 9-1 for the win. Benton sophomore Rebekah Thomas was third at 7-7, with senior Emma Schlitz tied for fourth with a judged 7-7.

Benton senior Mckenzie Bowman took second in the discus with a throw of 99-11, while sophomore Brynn Barbaree was fourth in 88-10.

Benton sophomore Diamond Parham was third in the shot put with a toss of 32-3, with junior teammate Taylor Frazier fourth in 31-5 and Bryant senior Monica Shifflet fifth at 28-10.5.

Thomas took third in the 100 hurdles with her time of 17.44 less than a half second from the winner.

Senior Abigail Mcelhaney also took third in the 1,600meter run with a time of 5:46.52, with senior teammate Melina West not far behind for fourth in 5:53.57.

It was West taking third in the 3,200 in a time of 13:13.50, with sophomore Kelsey Greer taking fifth in 13:42.80.

The Benton foursome of juniors Alianna Childress and Savannah Harrison, Schlitz and Smith took third in the 4x100 relay with their time of 55.18 less than two seconds off the first-place pace.

BOYS

Benton sophomore Jackson Modlin picked up the Panthers lone win on the day, taking first in the triple jump with a distance of 41-8.5, 4 inches further than the runner-up jumper.

Modlin also took a second-place finish in the 400 with a time of 52.59, less than a second from first. Senior Chase Boardman was fifth in 53.53, less than two seconds from the winner.

Panther senior Beau Wright was third in the discus with a throw of 121-4, with Walker Davis fifth in 119-1.

Bryant junior Brady Bingaman took third in the 3,200 with a time of 10:45.37.

Davis was fourth in the shot put, putting up a distance of 41-6.25, with senior Zane Manchack sixth in 41-3.25.

Benton senior Samuel Morales would take fourth in the 1,600 run with his time of 4:44.31 just four seconds from the winner. Morales would later score a goal and have an assist in Benton’s 2-1 soccer win.

Bryant junior Joshua Luster was fifth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 44.45.

LAKESIDE

In Benton’s win at the Lakeside meet the prior week, Davis took first in the shot put with a distance of 45-8.5, with Manchack third at 44-6.

The Panthers went 1-2 in the 110 hurdles, with junior William Pompeo first in 16.26 and sophomore Chris Barnard second in 17.54.

Pompeo made it two wins in the hurdles, taking the 300 in a time of 44.58.

Chandler Boardman, Chase Boardman, Ben Watson and Steven Smith took the top spot in the 4x800 relay in a time of 8:53.34, 12 seconds faster than the runner-up.

The 4x200 relay team of Barnard, Jaylan Hall, Modlin and Pompeo also won in a time of 1:36.58, just over a second faster than the runner-up.

Wright was second in the discus at 125-5, with Davis fourth at 112-2.

Benton sophomore David Baxley was third in the pole vault with a height of 11-0, while Morales took third in the 1,600 in a time of 4:49.44.

For the Lady Panthers at * Lakeside, Bowman took the top spot in the discus with a throw of 101-8, 9 feet further than the runner-up.

The Benton foursome of the Childress, Evelynn Kinsey, Schlitz and Lola Smith won the 4x100 in a time of 53.94.

Frazier was second in the shot with a distance of 32-7. Thomas took runner-up in the 100 hurdles in 17.75, 0.23 seconds from first, while also second in the 300 hurdles, 0.50 seconds from the top spot.

The 4x200 relay team of Chidlress, Harrison, Stephanie Love and Lola Smith took second in 1:57.63, three seconds from first.

West was third in both the 1,600 (5:55.51) and 3,200 (12:53.73), with Mcelhaney third in the 800 in 2:32.25.

Benton hits the road to Pearcy Thursday at Lake Hamilton before taking a two-week layoff before the 5A Central Conference meet begins Tuesday, April 26 in Beebe.
