Why did you pursue the position you are running for?
After finding out that the current Treasurer was retiring, I knew that the job of County Treasurer was the perfect transition from Collector. There are several counties in Arkansas that have just one office for the Collector/treasurer; the reason for this is because these two offices work hand in hand with the fiscal responsibilities of the county. I did not decide to ‘just run for office’; I knew that continuing on as Treasurer after Collector would be the next step in continuing my career in County Government and my service to the citizens of Saline County.
What prior experience do you have that is applicable to this position? How do you plan to use this experience?
As the current Collector, I have a unique insight of the knowledge, experience, and understanding into the operations of the collections of monies and disbursement of county funds to the appropriate entities. I work closely with our County Comptroller and finance department, along with our Legislative Auditors. As Treasurer, I will continue to work closely with each department, along with the newly elected Collector, to ensure that all county funds are accounted for and disbursed correctly. I have over 12 years of hands on experience with the fiscal responsibilities of Saline County, it’s what I do, it’s what I know, and it is what I hope to continue to be able to do for many years to come.
What plans do you have to improve Saline County/ your district?
If elected my goal is to streamline the office of County Treasurer to ensure more efficient ways to operate the disbursement of county funds. I will also strive to strengthen communication with every county office, each entity that we disburse funds to, as well as county residents. Also, I will make sure that all employees, myself included, are cross-trained and know how to do every job within this office. I believe that the elected official should be as hands on and knowledgeable with the day to day duties of the office as their employees are.
Why should you get the people’s vote/ What makes you a better choice than your opponent?
I believe my experience as Collector separates me from my opponents, as I am the only candidate with both an in-depth knowledge of the collection and disbursement of county funds and the experience with the annual Final Tax Settlement of the county. I am committed to serving the citizens of our County with integrity and respect. It has been and honor and a privilege to serve Saline County as Tax Collector. I am dedicated to our county, our community, and the citizens I work for. I hope the voters will allow me to continue to serve in the capacity of an elected official by electing me to be your next Saline County Treasurer.
