In April, Mayor Tom Farmer of Benton signed a proclamation declaring May 21 as Kids to Park Day. Kids to Park Day is a national day of outdoor play celebrated each year on the third Saturday of May.

This year Benton Parks and Recreation is joining the fun.

“It is a national parks and recreation day,” said Brandon Spurlock, Special Events Programmer Benton Parks.

In partnership with Arkansas Rocks Radio Stations, Benton Parks will be hosting Rocking in the Park on May 21 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Tyndall Park, 913 East Sevier St.

There will be live music, disc golf, a climbing wall, food trucks, bounce houses and much more.

“We are going to have a DJ from Central Arkansas Entertainment as well,” said Spurlock.

They are also going to have baggo and tennis and pickle ball demonstrations.

This is a free event that is open to the public. There will be food truck tickets given out to the first 100 kids in attendance. The two food trucks scheduled for the event as of now are Cowboy Taco and Twisted Fries.

The first 100 kids will also be given free disc golf discs. The event for kids of all ages and no registration is required.

The musical portion of the event will kick off at 1 p.m. at the Julie Busken Ampitheater.

Musical acts performing at the event include Union 5, Psychedelic Velocity, Jason Lee Hale and St. Jukes Revival.

“Our goal behind Kids to Parks is to have a day that connects kids and families with their local state and national parks as it promotes and encourages kids to get to those parks,” said Spurlock.
