Mildred Slade Vernon, 96, of Benton, went to be with our Lord on May 19, 2022. She was born June 6, 1925, in El Dorado, to the late Joe Smith Slade and Era Rogers Slade.

Mildred was a devout Christian and lifelong member of First Baptist Church, El Dorado, until retiring to

Hot Springs. Mildred was an honor graduate from the University of Arkansas- Fayettevil­le in 1947. She taught Sunday school and was a gifted pianist playing for the children’s choirs at church. Mildred was a tenacious bridge player and was a member of many bridge clubs throughout her life. She was also an avid Razorback fan attending many games in the 60s. Mildred loved to cook and care for her family. She was especially involved in her girls’ school work and their use of the King’s English.

Preceding Mildred in death were her husband of 59 years, Richard Vernon; as well as her sister, Josephine Slade.

She leaves behind two daughters, Carla (Jim) Robertson and Marsha (Jim) Clevenger; one grandson, Mark

(Melissa) Robertson; and her two treasured great-grandchild­ren, Evan and Mckenzie Robertson. She also leaves behind her constant companion and beloved dog, Snuggles.

A graveside service will be held at Morning Star Cemetery, Hot Springs, at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 1 Children’s Way, Little Rock, AR, 72202.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mount Carmel Community that has graciously and lovingly cared for Mildred (Mom) for several years and her endearing caregiver, Betty Russell.
