Sharon EHC talks flag etiquette

Sharon Extension Homemakers Club met

June 16 at the Saline County Fairground­s.

In attendance were nine members. The meeting was opened by members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. Patsy Wagner conducted the business session. Thought for the month: Pray because God listens. Patsy Wagner present the devotional referencin­g John 8:31. Prayers were requested for several members. Patsy Wagner challenged members to encourage young people to learn life skills.

Roll call was answered by members telling their favorite restaurant. Volunteer hours for the month of May totaled 247.

Patsy Wagner presented the program titled Flag Etiquette. She brought up the rules in handling the flag and properly disposing of it. It was interestin­g to note that the flag should be flown half mast until noon on Memorial Day. The annual state meeting took place

May 31 through June 2 at the Windham Hotel in North Little Rock. Five members from Saline County attended.

The Third Thursday event has presented EHC members to set up a display to educate Saline County the importance of the

Saline County Extension Homemakers. Cookies and lemonade are served and member informatio­n is available.

Six members met at the Saline County kitchen June 15 to make pies for the

Saline County Fair which will take place September 6 through September 10 at the Saline County Fairground­s.

Dumplings will be made July 20 and the chicken will be cooked August 17.

Members made 37 bears to be given to Saline Memorial Hospital.

Officers were elected for the coming year. Patsy Wagner, president; Ann Butler, vice president; Sylvia Nalley, secretary; Lucille Bagley, treasurer.

Eye openers were presented by the following members: Beverly Garrett, wooden blocks decorated to look like wrapped gifts and an Arkansas potholder which were made at the state meeting; Sylvia Nalley, mug rugs and a knitted sweater.

After the meeting was adjourned, a salad potluck meal was served. The July meeting will take place July 21 at the Saline County Fairground­s, following the summer schedule.
