White, Hornets earn honors

BRYANT – Bryant Hornets senior Logan White earned All-state, Allstate Tournament Team and All-conference honors this past season, guiding the Hornets through an inconsistent year which saw them finish 15-14.

The Hornets, which also had six Second Team Allconference selections, finished the regular season strong, and White was at the heart of Bryant’s late success.

“Logan is a young man that took advantage of our program and what our program can do for a young man,” Bryant Coach Travis Queck said. “Talk about one of the toughest human beings I have ever been around mentally, and then he built himself physically. A leader in the weight room, a leader in the field, a leader in the classroom. One of the best human beings I’ve ever been around.”

White led Bryant both at the plate and on the mound, leading the Hornets with a .333 average and 1.36 ERA. He also led the team with 26 hits, adding six doubles, a homer and 14 RBIS, with 20 runs and seven stolen bases.

“He’s committed to

SAU (Southern Arkansas University), which is an absolute perfect fit for him,” Queck said. “His mentality works exactly with what the guys at SAU do. Those guys made it to the world series, too. Logan has earned every bit of what he’s got this year and I couldn’t be any more proud of him.”

White was second on the team in innings pitched with 46.1, giving up 39 hits and 27 walks while striking out 64, also second on the team.

“An athletic young man,” Queck said. “He developed, he did everything every day that we asked him to do and it paid off for him. Logan found a way to make it work for him. The guy’s a winner.”

Earning Second Team All-conference honors for the Hornets were seniors Colby Morrow, Kade Ruffner and Turner Seelinger, junior Jordan Knox and sophomores Gideon Motes and Grant Johnson.

Morrow hit .274 with a

double, triple, homer and 13 RBIS, adding 14 runs and two stolen bases. On the mound, Morrow had a 2.78 ERA, striking out 29 in 22.2 innings pitched. Seelinger also helped the Hornets at the plate and on the mound, batting .246 with five doubles and 10 RBIS, while leading the Hornets with 48.1 innings pitched and 69 strikeouts, with a 4.35 ERA.

Ruffner was a pitcher only posting a 3.14 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched.

The junior Knox led the Hornets in runs (21) and stolen bases (14) while batting .322 with 13 RBIS.

The Hornets relied on the sophomores Johnson and Motes for their hitting. Johnson led the Hornets in plate appearances while batting .294 and a team-leading eight doubles and 23 RBIS. He also scored 17 times and swiped nine bases. Motes hit .289 with seven doubles, two triples, a homer and 18 RBIS while also scoring 17 times.

White, Morrow, Ruffner and Seelinger join a huge senior class that graduated this past May, including Lawson Speer, Gavin Burton, Connor Martin, Jaxon Ham, Drew Hatman, Caleb Greiner, Chance Spencer, Lakin Woods, Braxton Prather and Evan

Barrett.

“We had a big senior class and the bottom line is it’s hard to replace that,” Queck explained looking to next season. “It’s hard to replace a locker room that had so much impact on the field over the last couple of years. They all contributed in their own way; some on the field, some in the locker room, some being a teammate. It’s just going to be hard to replace these guys. Our record didn’t show the impact those guys had. They left their mark and left a legacy some other guys are going to have to uphold.”

Sitting three games under .500 in late April, the Hornets turned things around late in the season, winning five straight games and finishing

.500 (7-7) in 6A Central Conference play.

“It wasn’t a conversation,” Queck said of the run. “It was basically our guys saying, ‘This isn’t us, we’re not satisfied.’ We went on a little run. The guys started playing ball, competing. It always came down to one guy making a pitch, getting a hit. In more times than not, we would drop the ball in those situations. We started cleaning that stuff up and the expectations of the players changed. The guys started competing.”
