Mark-paul Gosselaar is busy again

- BY JAY BOBBIN

Q: It was good to see Markpaul Gosselaar in the “Will Trent” premiere, but I heard that he’s going to have a show of his own again. When will that be on? – Terry Dunn, Lancaster, Pa. A: The “NYPD Blue” and “Saved by the Bell” alum is among the stars of “Found,” an NBC series about a team that probes ongoing cases of missing people. The show had been slated to premiere later this month, but the network has decided to hold it for the fall season, also ordering additional scripts for it – which would seem to bode well, at least in terms of how NBC executives regard it. Regular cast members also include Shanola Hampton, Brett Dalton (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Chicago Fire”) and Kelli Williams (“The Practice”).

Q: Did the people who hired Jerrod Carmichael to host the Golden Globe Awards expect him to take such shots at them on the show? – Kelly Blake, via email

A: Let’s just say that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (as well as NBC, which had aired his “Carmichael Show” series) had to know who they were getting when they hired him for the job ... which really is the same situation as when they enlisted Ricky

Gervais or the team of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, also known for edgy humor in their own ways, in earlier years. The HFPA also must have realized that it was a fairly easy target for satire, given the circumstances that caused it to be without a television home for the Golden Globes last year. Carmichael certainly took that opportunity, just about from the second he first stepped onto the stage for the event, but the overall tone was fairly subdued for an occasion that still was trying to play into its reputation as the “party of the year.”

Q: Why did “Criminal Minds: Evolution” take a break from posting new episodes during the holidays, if it’s a streaming show that people can access when they want? – Robert Howell, Woonsocket, R.I.

A: That’s true, but Paramount+ evidently was using the same rationale that broadcast networks use with many shows, reducing (or totally bypassing) new episodes during a period when the available audience is thought to be smaller because of seasonal activities that take viewers away.

The “Evolution” season finale is scheduled to drop Thursday, Feb. 9, but there’s good news for fans who have been glad to see the crimesolving team back in action. The series has been renewed, with filming of the next season expected to start later this year. Whether it will start a new story or play off the one told in the current round remains to be seen.
