Forsan Oil Patch Cafe - Serving homestyle meals and friendly service
Highlighting Howard Co. Business
What better way to give back to a community than to feed them?
The Oil Patch Cafe, now owned and operated by Kristi and Tommy Thompson has been serving up homestyle meals since 2013 in Forsan, Texas. The couple took over the operations in October 2017 to ensure the Forsan community had a place to stop and eat during the day and before athletic events. As an opportunity presented itself, the Thompson’s took it and have been pushing forward ever since.
“We wanted to buy so we could invest in our community and Forsan could have a place to eat in their home town,” Kristi Thompson, co-owner of Oil Patch Cafe, said.
The cafe offers breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. along with daily specials. During the week, Monday through Friday, food is served up from 4-7 p.m. when the Forsan Buffaloes have a home football game.
“We want to continue to provide good home cooked meals to our community and surrounding areas,” she said. “We want to continue providing a private place for birthday parties, family reunions, class reunions, wedding receptions, and baby showers. We also offer catering.”
She continued, “I have always wanted to own a business, and I loved working in the food industry when I was younger. When this came up, it was a
good opportunity for our family and we took it.”
While the food industry wasn’t unfamiliar territory for Kristi, the preparation stepping in was an area she wasn’t as prepared for as anticipated. She said one of the biggest lessons learned is there isn’t enough money to truly get started and the hard working hours at the beginning are extensive.
