Forsan Food Pantry serving the community

- By AMANDA DUFORAT

A helping hand goes a long way; one box of food can meet a need that runs deeper than hunger. A new food pantry is offering support to the community, the Forsan Food Pantry.

“We were approached by a represen- tative at the West Texas Food Bank, and we realize many are struggling right now so the decision to get this started was an easy one,” Jenny Sayles said. “It’s extremely important all the time, but at this time especially due to so many who are struggling through this pandemic.”

The Forsan Food Pantry first opened a few weeks ago, and is located at the Forsan Junior High/high School campus in Forsan. The pantry is open to all community members, not just students and student families. According to Sayles, the food distribution will take place twice a month for an hour.

“Right now we are looking at being open twice a month, but if food is needed at anytime all one needs to do is go to the high school office and ask or contact Kaci Wash or myself and arrangements can be made,” Sayles said.

In addition to the Forsan Food Pantry opening, Forsan ISD recently announced – along with Big Spring ISD – students will be able to receive free breakfast and lunch meals through the rest of the year.

“We realize that right now many are struggling so I think between

the free meals at school and the boxed meals from the Forsan Food Pantry it could relieve some of the burden and stress of providing nutritious meals for families,” she said.

Those who are in need of a food box can drive up to the Junior High/high School front doors on the days of the Food Pantry being open for service and pick up a food box. When picking up a box, the only information that will be requested will be a last name and how many adults and children live in the home. The pre-packed boxes have been provided by the West Texas Food Bank. Anyone in the community is eligible to receive a box.

Those wishing to donate to the Food Pantry can do so by making a monetary donation to the West Texas Food Bank with Forsan Food Pantry in the memo line or donations of toiletries and non-perishable food items can be taken directly to the pantry.
