Howard College board to accept music, library gifts Monday

Howard County Junior College District trustees will consider accepting several gifts for Howard College when it meets Monday.

The board will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the Fireplace Room at the Howard College Student Union Building, located on the school's campus at 1001 S. Birdwell Lane.

According to the meeting's agenda, under “Visioning and Future Directions” for the Big Spring Area, the board will consider accepting a “music gift” during the meeting; as well as gifts from the G.C. Broughton Jr. Foundation and the Maria Hoag Estate for the college's library and department­al projects. No further informatio­n about the gifts is available prior to the meeting.

Following it's regular luncheon, the board will convene in open session with an invocation and recognitio­n of guests before considerin­g approval of routine matters including: approval of the minutes of the Oct. 25 regular meeting; a “Checklist for October 2021”; monthly reports of Auxiliary Services; personnel matters; and an internal audit report.

The board will next consider New Business, including a schedule of Accountabi­lity Reports; a notice of deadline to file an applicatio­n for a place on the ballot for the board's next next election; and the board's regular COVID-19 Response Status report; as well as the gifts mentioned earlier.

Next, the board will consider Performanc­e Measures and Outcomes, including a report on Continuing Education/ Workforce Training Official Enrollment and Contact Hours with comparison­s.

The board will also consider a report on labor market analytics and economic data provided by Economic Modeling Specialist­s Internatio­nal (EMSI).

The board will consider several performanc­e reports including a comparison of Howard College's enrollment figures with those of other colleges with similar demographi­cs; the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and Graduate Survey results; and the District's Quarterly and Annual Investment Reports.

business, the trustees will consider purchasing; changes to the college's Handbook and Catalog; and hear a report on new or realigned faculty and staff positions.

The trustees will consider constructi­on and renovation projects including updates and change orders on the Howard Big Spring campus and Southwest College for the Deaf roofing project; reports on damage and repairs due to the hail storm this past winter; and architectu­ral services for a constructi­on project.

The trustees will hear the audit report and a report from College President Dr. Cheryl Sparks, including upcoming activities and recognitio­ns.

The board will hear reports on the Howard College Leadership Summit and Legislativ­e and General Updates; and informatio­n about trustee training.

After a chance for trustees to evaluate the meeting and propose agenda items for future meetings, board Chairman Dr. John Freeman will offer his report before the meeting adjourns.
