Commissioners to consider upcoming primary election

- By ROGER CLINE Herald Staff Writer

Although Howard County and the rest of the nation recently completed an election, it's time to start thinking about the next one.

At their meeting Monday, Howard County Commissioners will discuss and consider granting approval to Elections Administrator Jodi Duck to conduct a Joint Primary Election, and sign the Joint Primary Election Services Contract with the chairpersons of the county's political parties.\

The commissioners will come together for a budget workshop at 1:30 p.m. Monday, which will be held in the second-floor Judge's Conference Room at the Howard County Courthouse, 300 S. Main St. The regular meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the third-floor courtroom at the courthouse.

After the regular session is called to order, a time will be provided for citizens to address the commissioners. If you intend to address the court, plan to arrive early at the meeting to complete and turn in a form to County Judge Kathryn Wiseman.

Following public comment, if any, Wiseman will lead discussions and possible action on the Howard County Leadership Summit, an upcoming meeting of 13 government and business groups planned for Dec. 6; and on maintenance on the fire alarm system at the main courthouse building.

The commissioners have discussed the fire alarm system in previous meetings, but have tabled the item while they await an estimate of what the project would cost after adding carbon monoxide detectors to the system.

County Treasurer Sharon Adams will present her Treasurer's Monthly Report for October, and personnel considerations.

County Auditor Jackie Olson will report on a donation to the county, which commissioners will consider accepting. Olson will also present invoices, purchase requests and budget amendments for the commissioners' approval.

Next, Duck will present her item mentioned previously, followed by an item presented by Precinct 1 Commissioner Eddilisa Ray regarding street mapping.

Finally, County Road Engineer Brian Klinksiek will ask commissioners to approve a low bid on a load of CRS-2 emulsified asphalt. Klinksiek will also present an updated Texas Department of Transportation project list, and give a roadway maintenance update.
