Falcons announce fall football schedule

This year's UT Permian Basin Football schedule features six home games and four first-time opponents. The Falcons will open Lone Star Conference play in week three after a pair of non-conference foes. Season ticket informatio­n will be announced in the near future.

Week 1 vs Southwest Baptist Bearcats 2021 Record: 4-7 | Last Meeting: September 4, 2021, W 24-16

The Bearcats come to the Permian Basin for the first time to open the year. Last year the Falcons went to Missouri and came away victorious after a last minute scheduling change brought on by COVID. The Bearcats went on to win four games including a 27-21 victory over Truman State who had been receiving votes in national polls. Quarterbac­k Cooper Callis has won back-to-back Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year Awards, after finishing in the top three nationally in passing yards, yards per game, and passing yards per game.

Week 2 vs Western Colorado Mountainee­rs 2021 Record: 10-2 | First Meeting

The Falcons welcome the Mountainee­rs who were Co-rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champions and reached the Division II playoffs in 2021. The Mountainee­rs made the postseason for the first time since 1997 after losing just once in the regular season, to Colorado School of Mines the eventual regional champion. It was the team's first winning season since 2016 and is looking for back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2001-02.

Week 3 vs Angelo State Rams

2021 Record: 11-3 | Last Meeting: October 16, 2021, L 14-34

The Rams went all the way to the Super Region IV finals in 2021. The Lone Star Conference's leading rushing offense and defense returns after team finished second in the league standings last year. The Falcons look for their first win in the series in the first game at UTPB since 2018 between the schools.

Week 4 at Western Oregon Wolves 2021 Record: 4-6 | First Meeting

The Falcons first road game is a trip to the Great Northwest against the Wolves. The Wolves will compete for their first LSC crown after a scheduling alliance between the league and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference allowed the three remaining GNAC football schools to play for the conference championsh­ip. Last season against LSC opposition, the Wolves went 1-1 including a home win over West Texas A&M.

Week 5 at West Texas A&M

2021 Record: 7-4 | Last Meeting: September 11, 2021, W 42-31

The Falcons head to Buffalo Stadium in Canyon for the first time in 2022 for what the Buffs have already announced as their homecoming game. The Falcons beat down the Buffs in 2022, leading by as many as 25 as the Falcons picked up their first victory in the series. The Buffs finished the season winners of five of their last six games, including an upset win over No. 15 Midwestern State to stay alive for the LSC title heading into the final week of play.

Week 6 vs Simon Fraser

2021 Record: 1-7 | First Meeting

The Falcons trip across the border was canceled due to COVID in 2021, but this time the Falcons welcome the lone NCAA team from Canada. Simon Fraser's lone win in 2021 came on the road against Montana State – Northern, a 30-3 final. The team is looking for their first winning season since 2008. Week 7 at Texas A&M – Kingsville Javelinas 2021 Record: 5-5 | Last Meeting: November 6, 2021, L 22-29

The Falcons travel to Kingsville in the fall for the first time since 2018. These teams last met in Kingsville in the spring of 2021, where the Falcon defense dominated. The only score the Javelinas had was a safety after a goal line stand by the Falcons. Last season the Javelinas were better on the road than they were at home, going 3-2 versus 2-3.

Week 8 vs Midwestern State Mustangs 2021 Record: 7-3 | Last Meeting: November 13, 2021, L 30-36

Despite taking home the Lone Star Conference trophy in 2021, the Mustangs were left out of the NCAA Division II playoffs after a late season slide. The Mustangs narrowly escaped the Falcons in the 2021 season finale, 36-30, after the Falcons had the ball inside the red zone on the team's final possession. The Falcons welcome the Mustangs back to the Permian Basin for the first time since the spring of 2021 when they beat them on a two-point conversion in overtime to finish the spring undefeated.

Week 9 at Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds 2021 Record: 4-7 | Last Meeting: October, 23,
