Erlinda Escovedo Rios, 73, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Chapel. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Erlinda Escovedo Rios was born in Fort Davis, Texas, on May 26, 1949, to Francisco and Merced Jacques Escovedo. She moved to Big Spring in 1952 and has been a resident here for most of her life. Erlinda married Luis Rios, on November 14, 1964. The couple met while working at the cotton fields surroundin­g Big Spring. They farmed on the north of town in the communitie­s of Knot, Ackerly and Luther. They later moved to town and began to form a family. Erlinda started working for the Big Spring Independen­t School District as a Teacher's Aide, and worked there for 10 years. She also worked at SMMC, before starting her career at the Department of Veterans Affairs. She worked there for 26 years in Human Resources, as a Clerk Typist and Personnel Clerk, and retiring as a Human Resources Specialist in 2009.

Erlinda was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. She was also an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, where she served as a secretary and later, served as president of the Society for several years. Erlinda loved to serve and assist the families of the community that were in need, especially during the holidays. She was also an auxiliary member for the Legion of Mary, served on the pastoral council for two years, and was a Cursillist­a.

Erlinda enjoyed dancing and listening to music, and spending time with her children, grandchild­ren, and great-grandchild­ren. Her favorite gathering was Easter, when all her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren came to the Easter egg hunt at her house.

Erlinda is survived by her four sons, Luis Rios Jr., (Janie), Jacob Rios, (Stephanie), Theodore Rios, and TJ Rios, (Sindy), and one daughter, Nancy Rios, all from Big Spring; four brothers, David Escovedo, Margarito Escovedo, (Estela), and Johnny Munoz (Gloria), of Big Spring, and Albert J. Escovedo (Liz), of El Paso; and two sisters, Yolanda Diaz, (Palemon) of El Paso, and Luisa Hernandez of Midland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco, 1994, and Merced in 1996; her husband Luis in 2017; and a son, Patrick, in 2008.

Pallbearer­s: Luis Rios III, Johnny Lee Rios, Jacob Rios Jr., Frankie Rios Vega, Theodore Rios Jr., Patrick Rios Jr., Timothy John Rios Jr., Daniel Rios. Honorary pallbearer­s all other grandsons.

All donations will go to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Big Spring, Texas.
