-

Robert L. Carlile of Austin, and former long-time resident of Big Spring, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022. Born Sept. 27, 1928, Bob grew up and lived in Big Spring, until his retirement from the Cosden Refinery after 36 years. Working for Cosden was a family affair. His father and brothers also worked at and retired from the refinery. Robert (Bob) Carlile married Koleta Hoisager June 7, 1951. Together they raised one daughter, Cathy; and three sons, Bobby, Kelly and Bruce.

After retirement, Bob and Koleta moved to Killeen where they managed a ranch for two years. Bob had an amazing connection with all of the animals at the ranch but his favorites were Cabrita, the goat, who followed him around like a loyal dog, and Star, a colt born the day they moved to the ranch. In 1986, Bob and Koleta moved to Austin where he drove a school bus for Round Rock ISD for the next nine years.

Bob enjoyed giving back to his community. He was more than willing to help in any way he could. Through his church he had the opportunity to build a Habitat House and was part of a team that built a compound for educating and housing orphans from across the border. In his spare time, you could find Bob outside working in the yard, riding his bicycle, or chatting with neighbors. He was known to the neighborhood kids as “Uncle Bob” and would do anything for them. No conversation was complete without a story or joke from Bob. He loved to make others laugh and smile. Everyone knew Bob had a sweet tooth. Every year he could count on his grandkids giving him a big jar full of Snickers or Peanut M&MS.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Cathy and husband, Jim Griffin; their children, Casey and wife, Katherine; and Cara, and great-grandchildren Jack, Libby, and Emma Griffin. Bob is also survived by his son, Bruce; and his children Austin, Amanda, and Adam.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Koleta who passed five weeks prior to his death; his two sons, Robert (Bobby) Carlile and Kelly Carlile; his parents, Allie and Mamie; and two brothers, Elwood and Billy Wayne.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
