Roy Edward Hughes of Wilmington, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 10, 2022, at the age of 84. Roy died peacefully with his wife, Karen and their three children close by.

Roy was born on Dec. 29, 1937, in El Paso, to father, Roy Earl Hughes and mother, Leona Coleman Hughes. As the youngest of four sons, Roy was raised in Big Spring, where he met and married his wife, Karen and subsequent­ly started their family. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineerin­g from Texas A&M University and went on to have a 37-year career with Fina Oil & Chemical.

Roy lived a rich life enjoying time with his family and friends. He was an active member of his church community that included serving as a Deacon and later as an Elder. He also had an unequivoca­l love of sports including golf and football…go Texas Aggies & Cowboys!

Roy was a beloved husband, father and grandfathe­r. He leaves a great legacy in the lives of all who knew him well.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Karen Hughes of Wilmington, NC; three children: Stephen Hughes of Ft. Worth; Kenda Walter and her husband, Joseph Walter of Wilmington, NC; Amanda Hughes of Austin; and two granddaugh­ters: Rachel Grace Walter and Karen Frances Walter of Raleigh, NC. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers; Dennis, James and Jerry Hughes.
