Angela’s Finally In Class

- Brutally Honest Truth Blog ... Post ... Column... Whatever!

On Sunday, January 15, 2023, something tremendous happened in my little family; something that is probably routine for many families, stretching over several generations. This minor event is something I've struggled with for several years, beginning with my first child, but specifically after having my second. (If you've read any of my columns, you've gathered that my youngest is a mess!)

Ready for it? My girls went into their designated church classrooms for the first time ever...without crying or fits! They even said they loved it and can't wait to go back! Wheewww! I can't even explain what a relief this is!

See?! I told you, it's something so ordinary. But for my family, it's been a struggle. The girls would usually sit in the sanctuary with us…when we felt like dealing with it enough to even attend church. And what a battle that was; until now! And I honestly couldn't be prouder of my girls or more excited for myself and my husband!

If you didn't know, my husband and I are fifteen years apart. So obviously, we were raised in totally different centuries! Ahem….i mean…generations. Mwahaha…all kidding aside, he was raised in church, I was not. He was in church every time the doors were open. I didn't even know what church doors were for several years. Now, don't get me wrong, my parents weren't against the church, they just didn't go. Therefore, I only went when I was invited by friends. I've missed out on so much.

When I was younger, I was embarrassed and almost ashamed when someone would ask me what church I went to. Sometimes, I'd even lie and say that my parents and I would watch it on television. We never did. Now that I'm older (and obviously much wiser haha!), I'm not embarrassed to tell the truth. Or I wouldn't be writing these columns!

I want different for my girls. I want them to grow up in church, learn the things I never did and experience things that I missed out on. While they're having a blast doing so, I get to soak up and focus on the lesson, instead of trying to peel my toddler off the sanctuary floor!

I have several years to catch up on. Hence the reason I'm so excited that my girls are now in their classes. I can focus on my passion for learning and growing, as I get to watch them do the same!
