It was a tough day for the Big Spring Steers baseball team on Thursday as they hosted Class 6A Odessa High in a non-district matchup at Steer Park. Odessa's pitching got the best of the Steers as the Broncos rode to a five inning 14-0 shut out win.

The Broncos utilized three pitchers in a combined effort to throw the shutout. Odessa built early lead in the top of the first as the Broncos scored four runs. The Steers started the bottom of the first quickly getting two outs. Big Spring's third batter Marcos Paradez was walked and was subbed out for Samuel Wood as a courtesy runner.

That positive was short lived as Big Spring's RJ Gomez went down swinging for the third out. It didn't get any better for Big Spring in the second inning, as the Broncos put up another seven runs to take a commanding 11-0 lead.

The Broncos would put up two more runs in the top of the third and one run in the top of the fourth. The Steers were unable to find some offensive rhythm against the Broncos pitching as Big Spring would finish the game with a total of just three hits.

Odessa put up a whopping 17 hits for 14 runs. Odessa's Zorian Del Real was credited with the win as he pitched for two innings allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out five.

Big Spring's Eli Cobos took the loss for the Steers on the mound. The senior threw for two and two-thirds innings surrendering 11 hits for 11 runs (nine earned) and struck out one.

Big Spring's Ricky Escovedo, Braxton Sizenbach, and Isaiah Diaz each had hit in the contest. The Steers will look to bounce back next Friday as they get ready to host Lamesa for teacher appreciation night.

The junior varsity team will play first at 4:30 with the varsity squad set to play at 7 p.m.
