Anthony Hunt Library Howard College's Anthony Hunt Library, A year long journey in the making
“In a library the world opens up. It has been said that a library is at the heart of the community, it is at the heart of the college.” Howard College President Dr. Cheryl Sparks said.
“And this library is beating at the heart of Howard College.”
The Howard College campus of Big Spring held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning to showcase it newly renovated and improved Anthony Hunt Library.
The renovations on the Anthony Hunt Library has been a year long journey in the making and was made possible thanks to the generosity of both the Broughton Foundation and the Maria Hoag Estate according to Dr. Sparks.
Per Dr. Sparks, the library was originally constructed back in 1967 and since that time till now
The newly renovated library will offer a lot for both students and the community which include a media room that can access libraries from across the country and the world. “People will literally be able to connect to information all over the world.” Dr. Sparks said.
Other feature of the library include a reading nook dedicated to the late Maria Hoag. The space offers a place for people to sit and relax and pickup a magazine or a book to read while. A memorial is also on display of Maria Hoag to honor and recognize her commitment and contributions through out her life and her dedication on the importance of reading and learning.
The library will also offer a teaching and learning center, creation station, conference room for the public and businesses to use and a cafe. If you would like to visit the Anthony Hunt Library it is located at 1001 Birdwell Ln.
