Howard SWCD Announces Annual Poster Contest Winners
Every year the Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts (TSWCD) sponsors a conservation poster and essay contest. This year’s theme for the Howard Soil and Water Conservation District (HSWCD) is “May The Forest Be With You Always”. The contest is open to any Kindergarten through 6th grade student (under the age of 12) who is UIL eligible. The district received 319 entries from Coahoma and Forsan Elementary students. The district is always so thrilled to see local students participate in conservation activities. All grade levels have conservation activities embedded in a variety of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) guidelines so the soil and water conservation districts hope this annual contest gives the teachers another alternative to impart this vital knowledge.
The entries were judged resulting in forty-eight awards given locally to students. Six entries were chosen to compete in the Area contest which is held in February at the TSWCD offices in Temple, Texas. HSWCD Area entries compete against approximately 42 other districts in our Zone. First place winners at Area will then be judged for State awards which are presented in October.
Local winners will be receiving ribbons and monetary awards according to ranking. HSWCD also traditionally gives awards to the teachers and the department they represent in appreciation for their time in presenting and collecting the posters and essays.
HSWCD is pleased and proud to announce this year’s winners.
