72-year old man arrested for felony hit and run in Big Spring

An arrest has been made in connection to an investigat­ion of a hit and run that took place back February 13 in Big Spring. After a month long investigat­ion, 72-year old Akmal Ilyas has been arrested and charged with accident involving serious bodily injury and failure to stop and render aid. The charge is a felony three offense.

According to a press release issued by the Big Spring Police Department,

Ilyas was arrested by the Midland Police Department on Thursday, March 14 and was booked into the Midland County

Jail where he is awaiting arraignmen­t.

The press release went on to state that the 48-year old victim that hit is still currently at UMC Lubbock and is listed as in stable condition. Below is the press release issued by the Big Spring Police Department.

Criminal Investigat­ions Division has been investigat­ing this Felony Hit and Run for the past month. Since this time several subpoenas were served as well as a search warrant executed at Resilient Oil Field Services in Midland Texas, with the assistance of Midland County Sheriff's Department. As a result of the investigat­ive efforts, an Arrest Warrant was obtained for Akmal Ilyas, Male 72 years of age, for the offense of Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury and for his failure to stop and render aid, a Felony 3 offense. On the 14th of March 2024, Mr Ilyas was arrested by the Midland Police Department for this felony warrant. Mr Ilyas has been booked into the Midland County Jail and is awaiting arraignmen­t. As of today, the 48-year-old victim is still in the hospital at UMC Lubbock in stable condition. This continues to be an ongoing investigat­ion and no further informatio­n is available at this time.
