David Lawrence Taylor

- Paid Obituary

David Lawrence Taylor went to be with The Lord peacefully on March 13th, 2024. He passed away at Lamun-lusk Sanchez Veterans Home in Big Spring, Texas. He was born on June 11, 1948 in Big Spring, Texas to Herman Elster Taylor and Dorothy Marie Taylor.

David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Dee Taylor, his son, David Nathan Taylor and his wife, Victoria Elizabeth Taylor and his daughter, Alyssa Erin Chicoineau and her husband, Sebastien Loic Chicoineau.

David loved God and his word with unshakeable faith and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He passed away with his hand on The Bible.

David graduated from Big Spring High School in 1966. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and reported to Fort Polk, Louisiana for basic training and then to Fort Wolters, located near Mineral Wells, Texas for flight school training. In 1970, he was deployed to the 240th Air Assault Helicopter company at Base Bearcat, located near the city of Bien Hoa in Dong Nai Province in Southern Vietnam as a UH1 transport helicopter pilot with the Greyhound's Unit. He was honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of CW2 (Chief Warrant Officer), logging 1,085 flight hours. For his service to our country, he will forever be a hero.

David Taylor and Barbara Taylor were married on July 24, 1971 at East Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas.

He had a long and successful career working at the Big Spring Oil Refinery. He retired from his position as Shift Leader in 2018 after 35 years of service.

David was an avid horticulturist and achieved the designation of Master Gardener through the Permian Basin Master Gardeners Association. He loved to spend hours in nature tending to plants, trees, and flowers. He particularly loved white orchids.

He had a great love and affection for animals, especially his beloved dog, Bella. He often cared for lost, homeless, and sick animals and served on the board of the Big Spring Humane Society.

One of David's most endearing qualities is how much he loved to chat. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation about anything with anyone and he especially loved to spend time with his best friend, Casey Wayne Pledger, a dear friend of the Taylor family.

Most of all, David loved to fly. He enjoyed his time serving as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army and went on to fly glider planes as a hobbyist. We are comforted with the knowledge that he can now soar freely.

His legacy of faith and kindness will live in our hearts forever.

“Well done, good and faithful servant…” Matthew 25:23
