Clemmer's walk-off grand slam gives No. 1 Coahoma 17-0 run-rule win over Ingram Moore
SAN ANGELO, TX – Coahoma began it's run for its third consecutive trip to the state softball tournament Thursday afternoon facing off against Ingram Moore in the Class 3A Bi-district opening round.
Five innings and 17 runs later, the Bulldogettes took a step forward in returning to Austin in June after shutting out the Lady Warriors 17-0 at San Angelo Central High School's softball field.
The game ended in the bottom of the fourth after sophomore Mia Clemmer blasted a walk-off grand slam to center to secure the run-rule win over Ingram Moore. The grand slam homer hit by Clemmer was her second of the game as she put one over the fence in the bottom of the second. Clemmer finished the game going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and six RBI'S.
Wells was her usual self in the circle tossing a shutout in the win. Wells gave up just three walks while retiring eight Lady Warrior batters at the plate. Wells went 1-for-1 at the plate for a triple and was walked three times in the game.
Three errors committed by Ingram Moore proved to be the difference maker especially in the bottom of the second inning when senior Karleigh Burt singled on a hard ground ball to left field. Ingram Moore's outfield misplayed the ball resulting in three runs scored.
Burt finished the game going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI'S. Coahoma's Baylor Wright and Bree Lewis both finished the game going 2-for-3 with and RBI each.
Coahoma's Nevaeh Kerby tallied two RBI'S, while teammates Brynn Rodgers and Addison Hart contributed an RBI each.
Ingram Moore's Layla Virdell took the loss in the circle tossing for two innings. Virdell gave up nine runs off of eight hits and walking two.
Coahoma (25-0) will face the winner of the Holliday and Brock game next week at date, time and location to be announced.
