Big Spring Invitation­al XC Meet results from Saturday at Comanche Trail Park

The Big Spring Invitation­al cross country meet took place at Comanche Trail Park this past weekend. Runners from nine schools (All Saints Episcopal, Big Spring, Coahoma, Compass Academy, Lamesa Klondike, Midland Greenwood, New Home, Odessa, Odessa Permian) took part in the meet and the runners from Big Spring and Coahoma put together a great showing. The Steers' own Roman Perez was victorious in the boys' 5,000 meter race and led them to a team win on the day.

4A-6A Boys’ Junior Varsity 5,000 M Odessa's Miguel Lujan came in first place (20:25.03) with Big Spring freshman David Villagrana (third, 21:17.67), sophomore Jordan Mitchell (fourth, 21:34.64) and junior Joshua Mireles (sixth, 22:14.11) rounding out the top finishers.

4A-6A Girls’ Junior Varsity 5,000 M

Odessa's Amada Angela Gonzales finished in first by a landslide (24:43.19). The only Big Spring runners to participat­e were freshman Alyssa Bernal (29:55.14) and sophomore Sapphire Martinez (32:35.92) who finished in ninth and tenth place, respective­ly.

1A-3A Boys’ Varsity 5,000 M

Senior runner Ash Bumstead from All Saints Episopal (19:03.51) captured the victory after a strong performanc­e on the trail. Coahoma freshman Jake Freeman (12th, 21:10.57), senior Ethan Biddison (18th, 22:19.84), senior D'Kota Harrison (22nd, 22:45.15), senior Nicolas Biddison (27th, 24:20.13), freshman Juan Carlos Garza (28th, 24:23.06), and freshman Keiston Harrison (30th, 26:43.63) all had good performanc­es but still have more room to improve. 1A-3A Girls’ Varsity 3,200 M

Compass Academy freshman Lindsey Ruiz (12:59.67) finished in first place. From Coahoma, sophomore Serena Dobbs was the only runner to take part and finished in sixth place (14:27.83).

4A-6A Boys’ Varsity 5,000 M

Big Spring's own Roman Perez came in first place and finished almost 15 seconds quicker than the next runner (17:08.58). Sophomore Isaac Gonzales (sixth, 18:04.19), sophomore Adrian Solis (eighth, 18:17.45), freshman Michael Perez (10th, 19:31.21), senior Brandon Rogers (14th, 20:27.52), freshman Joseph Gonzales (15th, 20:30.07), senior J Jones (16th, 20:37.59), and freshman Evan Medrano (22nd, 22:09.57) rounded out the rest of the finishers for the Steers.

4A-6A Girls’ Varsity 5,000 M

Odessa Permian junior Raeley Howard finished in first place (21:41.38). For Big Spring, there were a group of girls that all put together their best effort and left it all on the trail on Saturday morning. Big Spring junior Elisabeth Jones (second, 22:25.53) and freshman Erin Mendoza (fifth, 23:02.95) both were able to place in the top five. Senior Falicity Calderon (17th, 24:36.06), sophomore Felicity Yanez (20th, 25:45.39), sophomore Esperanza De Los Santos (26th, 26:23.68), freshman Analisa De Los Santos (29th, 26:43.07), freshman Alexa Mehan (32nd, 27:09.36), and freshman Aracelee Alvarado (33rd, 29:01.12) rounded out the race for the Lady Steers.

UP NEXT: Big Spring will race at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock next Saturday.
