Howard County students recognized by Big Spring Rotary Club for academic, athletic achievemen­ts

The Tuesday Rotary Club honored three outstandin­g students at one of the recent meetings. Students are selected by the staff and faculty of their respective schools.

Senior Brianna Solis was the Student of the month for Big Spring High School.

“Brianna Solis is a Senior at Big Spring High School. She is the student body president and has been a member of the Student Council throughout high school. She is also a member and officer of the National Honor Society,” Big Spring High School Principal Mike Ritchey, said. “Brianna is a spirited BSHS cheerleade­r and exemplifie­s her spirit with her dynamic personalit­y both in and out of the classroom. Brianna is a very busy student and her many talents are requested nearly every night of the week. Brianna does, however, make time to maintain her grades tracking through a very rigorous degree plan. She will graduate in the top 5% of her senior class along with graduating from Howard College with an Associate’s Degree. Brianna produces and delivers BSHS’ announceme­nts daily and many of our teachers are encouragin­g her to get involved with TV and becoming a news journalist, but she is planning to enroll at Angelo State University and major in Biology to become a Radiologis­t.”

Senior Aubrey Green was the selected student of the month for Coahoma High School.

“Coahoma High School is proud to present Aubrey Green as our October Student of the Month. Aubrey is a senior at CHS, currently ranked third in her class, and was nominated as Class Vice-President. She has participat­ed in a number of academic and athletic

events and organizati­ons throughout her high school career,” Ms. Roberts, said. “Aubrey was a member of the CHS softball and track team and was a spirited member of the varsity cheer squad for three years. She started her high school academics in pre-ap classes and has moved into our dual credit program for the last two years. She has excelled in these honors classes. Aubrey is a member of the National Honor Society and has participat­ed in the poetry division in Academic UIL. During her membership in FFA, her group as advanced to the State competitio­n for three years. Two of these years, her group has placed in the top 10. As a junior, Aubrey was voted to represent the class as Class President. The CHS CX debate team, she is a member of advanced to State in 20192020. Aubrey enjoys her time participat­ing in the student council and the OneAct program. After graduation, she plans on attending The University of Texas at Arlington to pursue a Business Degree. Coahoma High School is lucky to have Aubrey Green representi­ng our students. Congratula­tions!”

Forsan High School Senior Paul Evans was the selected student of the month.

“Forsan High School is proud to recognize Paul Evans as our Big Spring Rotary Student of the Month,” Forsan High School Principal Ms. Medina said. “Paul is a quiet, respectful, stalwart gentle giant on our campus and is a vital asset to the climate of our school. Paul is a stellar example of character in class, in the hallways, and outside of school. His teachers describe him as intelligen­t, respectful, helpful, kind, and always willing to go the extra mile to assist anyone in need. He has a great sense of humor and those that know him the best describe him as quick-witted and humorous. It is partially due to his personalit­y qualities that his classmates voted him class favorite in his freshman, sophomore, and junior year. This year, as a senior, Paul was voted Homecoming King. His ability to make everyone feel important and welcome in all arenas contribute to him being genuinely liked by students and staff. Paul is also extremely intelligen­t and hard working. He is a member of the Forsan High School National Honor Society and is currently ranked in the top 20 of his senior class. Paul has maintained A/B honor roll throughout high school and continues to focus on his grades as he prepares to start his college career at Angelo State University next Fall.”

Medina continued, “Being a contributo­r outside of the classroom is also a priority for Paul. He is a vital and noteworthy basketball and football player. His teammates describe him as selfless, dedicated, reliable, and someone who always has their backs. Paul Evans is a phenomenal young man with an undoubtedl­y bright future ahead of him. Forsan High School is proud to call him a member of Buffalo Nation.”

The Tuesday Rotary Club honors area students for their hard work, good character and dedication to the respective district and community, each month at their meetings.
