Forsan dominates C-City, now set their sights on hosting the Anson Tigers

- By SHAWN MORAN Herald Sports Writer

Forsan is coming off of a district opening demolition of Colorado City last Friday night. The Buffs’ rushing attack was cooking all night long and quarterbacks Major Stockton (2) and Sawyer Stallings (1) combined for three touchdowns through the air.

Stockton also led Forsan in rushing by racking up 137 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries. The twoheaded running back monster of Nate Hernandez (97 yards) and Chris Mendez (73 yards) each put together solid performances on the ground by following their strong offensive line and hitting open holes with authority.

On defense, the front seven completely controlled the game and barely allowed the Wolves to move the ball at all.

Colten Wallis had a huge game for the Buffaloes from his defensive line spot and collected four tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Wallis’ play allowed his fellow front seven player Ernesto Rivera to show off his pass rushing prowess and notch three sacks against the Wolves. Both of those players opened up opportunities for the other and they will need to continue that dominance going forward into district.

“Our front seven on defense gets after it. When all of those guys are in there and healthy, they’re tough to do anything against. They’re great against the run and we can put some pressure on the passer,” Head Coach Jason Phillips said.

The break that Forsan had before the C-City game allowed them to get healthy.

That is exactly where every football team wants to be at this time of year and there does not seem to be much rust for Forsan to knock off.

They will play host to the Anson Tigers (4-1) this Friday night in a battle for one of the top spots in the district. Anson’s offense is a balanced attack that is led by senior running back Jacob Garza. The top two receivers for Anson have combined for eight touchdowns and senior Jacob Jenkins appears to be their main deepball threat. Other players to look out for on Anson’s offense are Dylyn Pyle, Julian Garcia, and Gavin Williams.

On defense, Garcia has three interceptions this year and should be a player that Forsan avoids throwing at. Junior Joe Galvan is Anson’s leader in sacks (5.0) and has totaled 11.0 tackles for loss through five games.

Anson only loss this season was 48-6 to Hamlin on Sept. 18. They defeated Stamford 41-34 last Friday night and their offense has put up at least 30 points in each one of their wins.

Forsan’s front seven will once again need to control the line of scrimmage while Stockton and Stallings look to take advantage of an aggressive defense.
