Big Spring XC has strong performanc­e at Lubbock Christian University Invitation­al on Saturday

The Big Spring cross-country team participat­ed in the Lubbock Christian University October UIL Invitation­al this past Saturday at Chaparral Golf Course. There were over 25 high schools that participat­ed in the event and Big Spring solidified themselves as one of the best of the bunch with an impressive showing on Saturday.

In the Varsity Mens’ 5,000 meters, Big Spring junior Roman Perez finished in first-place (16:34.80). His teammate, sophomore Adrian Solis (17:28.40) also finished in the Top 10 by finishing in fifth. Other Big Spring finishers were sophomore Isaac Gonzales (11th, 18:20.60), freshman Michael Perez (18th, 19:06.40), senior J Jones (28th, 19:55.00), freshman Joseph Gonzales (37th, 20:39.50), senior Brandon Rogers (38th, 20:43.90), and freshman Evan Medrano (41st, 21:05.50). All of those runners placed in the Top 50 out of 58 runners and it was strong

On the women’s side, the Lady Steers had a strong collective performanc­e running the 2-Mile Race and finished in fifth-place as a team.

Junior runner Elisabeth Jones was the top finisher for the Lady Steers (6th, 13:10,50), with freshman Erin Mendoza (9th, 13:19.10) finishing close behind for two Top 10 finishers. Sophomore Felicity Yanez (35th, 15:13.40), freshman Alexa Mehan (41st, 15:35.00), freshman Analisa De Los Santos (16:06.30), and sophomore Esperanza De Los Santos (46th, 16:28.60) were the other Lady Steer runners.

Big Spring will race next at District on Oct. 28 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
